This position is a Deputy Director in one of the offices within the Office of International Affairs (IA). If you have an interest in working for an office that advises and assists senior Treasury officials in formulating and executing policies and programs related to international economic, development, financial, and monetary fields, have strong written and oral communication skills, and enjoy complex and challenging issues, please consider joining the International Affairs economics team.

Duties

The following are the duties of this position at the GS-15. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position. Support the establishment and implementation of policies, strategies and initiatives related to economic and financial growth in various countries or regions of the world. Plan and conduct economic research and studies to help formulate proposed Treasury Department and U.S. government policy priorities related to specific countries or regions of the world. Take the initiative in tracking relevant legislation and provides assistance to senior Treasury Department officials on proposed legislation or general issues relating to issues of the Office. Support the Director in overseeing the creation, negotiation, and adoption of U.S. initiatives that encourage sound economic and financial growth abroad. Directs engagement with counterparts in other agencies, governments and multilateral institutions and represent the Treasury Department before relevant inter-agency and international bodies and at relevant international meetings and conferences.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE at the GS-15 level: You must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-14 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized Experience for the GS-15 includes: Independently planning and conducting economic research and analysis used by senior officials to help develop policies or strategies for economic development in various countries or regions of the world; AND Developing policy or strategy recommendations for senior officials regarding macroeconomic, financial market, international trade or development; AND Building consensus positions through international negotiations with U.S. interagency or international bodies; AND Communicating information, both orally and written, regarding relevant economic issues or legislation to senior or high ranking officials inside and outside the government. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE at the GS-14 level: You must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized Experience for the GS-14 includes: Leading or coordinating macroeconomic or financial analysis teams or groups; AND Formulating policy or strategy recommendations that will advance work in financial market, international trade, investment, development finance, or multilateral development; AND Communicating information, both orally and written, regarding relevant economic issues or legislation.

Education

Applicants for this position must meet the following BASIC EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:

A. Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university that met all of that institution's requirements for a bachelor's or higher degree with a major in economics, that included at least 21 semester hours in economics and 3 semester hours in statistics, accounting, or calculus. OR
B. A combination of education and experience -courses equivalent to a major in economics, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

The education generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of
Education.
