This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Major Range Test Facility Base (MRTFB) to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: This Police Officer position is with the Directorate of Emergency Services, Police Patrol Branch, White Sands Missile Range, NM.
Duties
Perform protection duties to deter, detect, and deny unauthorized access at fixed installation, internal compound, and incident perimeter posts.
Operate the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) terminal in accordance with federal and state laws to transcribe data.
Respond to and investigate emergency calls, complaints and other calls for service.
Conduct traffic law enforcement patrol using specialized equipment such as radar, Lidar and breathalyzer.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration
of employment.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a two year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
- Successfully graduate from the United States Army Civilian Police Academy within one year of hire, unless has a current approved waiver/exemption or grandfathered from the Office of the Provost Marshal General.
- These include, but not limited to: weapons qualifications, first aid/CPR, and National Incident Management System (NIMS) training requirements.
- This position requires the incumbent to pass a Physical Agility Test (PAT) within 30 days of their hiring date and annually thereafter.
- The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs.
- This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment.
- This position has been designated "Mission Essential".
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions
to operate vehicles.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 40 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled
basis.

Specialized Experience GS-06: One year of specialized experience which includes knowledge of a body of basic laws and regulations, law enforcement operations, practices, and techniques and involved responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
Specialized Experience GS-07: One year of specialized experience which includes controlling vehicle and pedestrian traffic at fixed posts; responding to calls or alarms involving crimes; conducting preliminary investigations of accidents and crimes; AND maintaining order and protecting life and property. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
