The incumbent is responsible)e for general maintenance and repair requirement, as established by the Maintenance Supervisor, Supervisory General Engineer, or Chief Facilities Management Service, for the James A. Haley Veterans Hospital.
Duties
Major Duties Include:
Independently plans & lays out carpentry projects by interpreting complex instructions, sketches, building codes
Measures, cuts & constructs building materials for framework, rafters, and doors
Plan, measure, and lay out carpentry materials using typical shop mathematics for complex and exact projects.
Steam system troubleshooting and repair including backflow prevention valves, steam control valves, radiators, and coils
Performs walk through inspections of buildings and initiates electronic work orders for deficiencies found
Selecting and safely using proper tools, devices, manuals, references and efficient procedures
Troubleshoots malfunctions & failures & determines the extent of repairs & parts needed, estimated materials required
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday; 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM

Physical Requirements: The incumbent works from ladders, scaffolding and hydraulic platforms. The incumbent often works in portions of the utility systems requiring attention that are cramped, dirty and hard-to-reach locations. The work may involve prolonged crouching and standing and frequent stooping, bending. kneeling, climbing and working in exhausting and uncomfortable positions. The incumbent frequently lifts or carries tools, equipment, ladders, scaffolding, parts and supplies up to 50 pounds. Occasionally, the incumbent will be required to lift and carry items over 50 pounds.
