This notice is issued under direct-hire authority to recruit new talent to occupations for which NIST has a severe shortage of candidates.
Duties
The successful candidate will:
Advance the state of the art in the measurements of thermodynamic quantities and provide support for American industry through measurement services.
Perform research independently and as a member of a team to improve the realization and dissemination of the SI unit of temperature, the kelvin.
Validate and improve measurements through comparisons with other national metrology laboratories and by other methodology.

Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
A degree in physics; or related degree that included at least 24 semester hours in physics.
OR
A combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in physics totaling at least 24 semester hours, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
In Addition to the Basic Requirements: Applicants must have at least one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to GS-9 (ZP-II at NIST). Specialized experience is defined as experience in thermodynamics and instrumentation with laboratory experience designing, developing, measuring, and calibrating standard for thermometry.
OR
A Master's or equivalent graduate degree.
OR
A combination of specialized experience and graduate level education.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done. We will credit all qualifying volunteer experience in your application.
