Carry out research on high-precision spectroscopy of neutral and low-charged ions of complex atoms using Fourier Transform spectrometers and normal-incidence and grazing-incidence spectrometers
Perform accurate measurements of spectra and analyze possible sources of uncertainties while identifying new spectral lines using advanced atomic-structure codes
Perform accurate measurements of oscillator strengths and/or transition probabilities
Maintain and service the above mentioned spectroscopic instruments
Assist in maintenance and operation of the transition-edge-sensor microcalorimeter used for the Electron Beam Ion Trap (EBIT) spectroscopy research on highly-charged ions
Work in a team environment

In addition to the basic requirements, applicants must also have 1 year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-9 (ZP-II at NIST) level. Specialized Experience is defined as detailed knowledge of experimental atomic, molecular, and optical physics; experience working in an advanced atomic physics laboratory, AND experience with the following systems: Fourier Transform spectrometers, normal-incidence vacuum-ultraviolet spectrometers, AND transition-edge-sensor microcalorimeters.
OR
Master's or equivalent graduate degree as defined in the basic requirements.
OR
A combination of graduate education and specialized experience as defined in the additional requirements
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done. We will credit all qualifying volunteer experience in your application.
