About the Position: This position is in the Defense Civilian Intelligence Personnel System (DCIPS). Employees occupying DCIPS positions are in the Excepted Service and must adhere to U.S. Code, Title 10, as well as Department of Defense Instruction 1400.25. This position is located at the U.S. Army Space & Missile Defense Command/ ARSTRAT, Deputy Chief of Staff, G-2 Security Division, Security Team, Redstone Arsenal, AL 35898.

Duties

Serves as Special Security Officer (SSO) under the general staff cognizance of the Senior Intelligence officer (SIO). Oversees multi-discipline (i.e., Personnel and Information Security, Foreign Disclosure, Special Access Program (SAP) security etc.) collateral and Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) security functions. Develops and presents periodic tailored security education and awareness/Operations Security (OPSEC) training. Reviews information proposed for public release, coordinates with technical staff and makes recommendation regarding release. Provides guidance, direction, advice, and assistance to subordinate SSOs/Special Security Representatives.

Requirements

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret (TS) security clearance based on a T5 investigation/Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) with eligibility for sensitive compartmented information (SCI).
  • In accordance with Change 3 to AR 600-85, Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program, individual must successfully pass a urinalysis screening for illegal drug use prior to appointment and periodically thereafter.
  • May require Temporary Duty (TDY) travel up to 25% of the time.
  • Must be able to obtain the following core SPeD Certification: Security Fundamentals Professional Certification (SFPC) within first two years of employment.
  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Two year trial/probationary period may be required.

Specialized experience is defined as: experience in administering and executing Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) in 1) Personnel Security for SCI eligibility, interim clearances, and/or SCI access. 2) Information Security program such as proper handling of SCI material, marked, safeguarded, stored, reproduced, transmitted, and destroyed in compliance with policy and procedures. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GG/GS-12). Specialized experience is progressively responsible intelligence-related security work directly related to the position being filled. Creditable experience may include previous military experience, experience gained in the private sector or in another government agency as long as it was at a level at least equivalent to the next lower band in the series.
