About the Position: The Information Technology (IT) Specialist is responsible for the setup, function, and availability of all assets and telecommunication equipment. It ensures staff and service liaisons have the technology to support the processing of applicants for military service, and that support-staff have the technology to support the general operation of the organization. This position is located in Albuquerque, NM.
Duties
Respond to and resolve customer problems, requests and questions in regards to hardware and software issues.
Install, configure, troubleshoot and maintain all hardware and software.
Serve as the technical advisor for the organization for all IT systems matters.
Monitor the status and effectiveness of the organization's applicant database system.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a secret (T3) security clearance.
- This position temporary travel duty (TDY) business travel approximately 10% of the time
- Incumbent (or Selectee) is required to satisfactorily complete the appropriate training and earn the required certification for this position as outlined in DoD 8570.01-M, Information Assurance Workforce Improvement Program, dated 19 December 2005
- cont. (incorporating Change 4, 10 Nov 2015). Certifications must be able to obtained and retained within 6 months of arriving at your duty location.
- A physical is required. Must be able to lift up to 45 pounds.
- Potential Saturday, Sunday or evening on an exception basis is required.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes demonstrated experience responding to users in regards to resolving problems, troubleshooting software and hardware; providing direct customer assistance with providing technical assistance regarding equipment operation and maintenance; AND testing and analyzing computer equipment malfunctions and software errors. . This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).
OR
Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Computer Science or Information Technology.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.
Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
