About the Position: Incumbent will assist with planning and coordination of live fire training at the Range Training Complex. Position is with the Directorate of Plans, Training, Mobilization and Security at Joint base Lewis-McChord, WA.
Duties
Receive, transmit, and record pertinent safety operational information for routine situations covered by instructions, and regulations.
Conduct pre-operation and post-operation inspections of ranges, facilities, drop zones, live fire exercises and training areas for safety and environmental compliance.
Monitor Restricted Airspace from FAA Seattle Approach for scheduled activities and ensure required check fires are initiated.
Respond to emergency response agencies, including Military Police and the Fire Department and respond to unknown situations, emergencies.
Patrol the range complex to monitor training and recreational activities for compliance with regulations, procedures, range or facility SOPS, Range Contracts, overlays (SDZs), and special instructions.
Enforce safe weapons firing and handling, ammunition handling and accountability, safe troop movement, tactical training safety, target emplacement, environmental compliance.
Completes installation and maintenance of warning signs/roadblocks and barriers preventing access to permanent and temporary impact areas and designated hazard areas.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.

- This position has a requirement to lift up to 39 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
- This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
- This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
