You will serve as a Shipwright Leader in Shop 64 of the Production Resources Department of PSNS and IMF.


You will instruct other employees in shop and aboard ship, performing work to assure verbatim compliance with technical directives. You will consider skills required and material, specifications and equipment available to do the work. You will lead other workers and instruct them on work requirements, methods and procedures as needed while inspecting work in progress. You will keep supervisor informed of work progress, technical and personnel problems and material and manpower requirements. You will work with other shipboard trades in positioning and aligning various structural parts and large assemblies. You will position, build up keel blocks, bilge blocks and other structures upon which vessels will rest when water is pumped from the graving dock. You will build supporting cradles for dry docking vessels.

  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This position requires work onboard ships and the ability to lift/carry items weighing 60 pounds.
