The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a Combat Arms Training and Maintenance Instructor performing all weapons training qualification for all Basic Military Trainees and JBSA-San Antonio Base Populace.
Duties
Instructs students through assigned blocks of instruction at basic and/or advanced training/administrative levels of Combat Arms Training and Maintenance Instruction courses.
Plans, develops, executes, and evaluates live firing qualification training.
Inspects and Repair Small Arm Weapons.
Accomplishes special projects/additional duties.

Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Administrative and Management Positions, Training Instruction Series 1712, to include Individual Occupational Requirements (+IOR).
BASIC REQUIREMENT OR INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT:

For Community College of the Air Force GS-1712 positions only: Section 9315 of 10 USC directs the commander of the Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) to comply with standards established by the Secretary of Education to confer associate degrees upon enlisted members who have completed the requirements for the prescribed programs of study. To comply with this directive, all faculty members of the Community College of the Air Force must meet minimum educational requirements as prescribed by the accrediting body Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, Commission on Colleges (SACS-COC), i.e., all teachers must hold at least an associate degree in order for the school to meet accreditation criteria.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-07, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes: 1) Teaching or instructing in an adult education program, secondary school, college, military installation, or industrial establishment in the appropriate field(s). 2) Supervising or administering a training program. 3) Development or review of training/course materials, aids, devices, etc., and evaluation of training results. 4) Work in the occupation or subject-matter field of the position to be filled that required training or instructing others on a regular basis. 5) Providing knowledge of instruction in use of Arms, Ammunition, and Equipment (AA&E), occupational safety and health, handling of hazardous materials, safe range operations, and security of personnel and resources.

EDUCATION: Successfully completed a master's or equivalent graduate degree OR 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree OR LL.B. or J.D., if related with a major study in education or a subject area related to the position to be filled. COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts.
FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-07 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-09 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Knowledge of a wide range of the principles and practical methods, techniques, and tools of instruction to teach a variety of students with a range of differences such as diverse ages, backgrounds, and levels of interest.
2. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
3. Knowledge of training aids and devices used in training programs, including the skill and ability to demonstrate operation, maintenance, and combat employment of all weapons used in the course of instruction.
4. Knowledge of instructional design and materials development for assigned courses.
5. Must be able to project voice in outdoor areas and be heard by 100 plus trainees.
6. Must qualify and maintain qualification with the following weapons: M-9 Handgun, M-4 Rifle, M-203 Grenade Launcher, M-249 Machine Gun, 50-Cal, and Sniper Rifle.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
