Duties
The following are the duties of this position at the GS-7. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position.
As a/an Program Support Assistant (OA), you will:
Log in and monitor the office's clearance of correspondence, drafts of legislation and regulations, draft handbooks and notices, and similar material circulated for review and comments.
Review all incoming correspondence, legislation, regulations, and other material, determine whether clearance material has been properly routed.
Draft correspondence on their own initiative or at the direction of the supervisor in response to public inquiries of a general nature concerning programs of the office or the specific activities of the office.
Assemble and organize facts, data, and information on programs as background for meetings, hearings, briefings, and reports.
Be responsible for providing administrative support for the office.
Qualifications
You must meet the following requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement.
You must have a typing skill of at least 40 wpm; AND
Specialized Experience: For the GS-5, you must have one year (52 full weeks) of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-4 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized Experience for this position includes:
Utilizing a variety of word processing and other software applications (i.e. Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel); AND
Tracking correspondence, updating reports, maintaining logs, and reviewing written materials for grammatical accuracy; AND
Routing issues and questions to the appropriate staff; AND
Providing daily administrative support in your physical duty station as well as for a virtual workforce (i.e. remote locations and staff)
OR Education: You may substitute education for general or specialized experience as follows: For GS-5 level positions, only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience.
OR Combination: You may qualify by a combination of experience and education. Combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements and may be computed using the total qualifying experience as a percentage of the experience required and adding the percentage of the required education completed; the total percentages must equal at least 100 percent to qualify.
Experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. To ensure full credit for your work experience, please indicate dates of employment by month/day/year, and indicate number of hours worked per week on your resume.
Time-in-Grade: In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable:
For the GS-5 you must have been at the GS-4 level for 52 weeks.
Time After Competitive Appointment: Candidates who are current Federal employees serving on a non-temporary competitive appointment must have served at least three months in that appointment.
