Position will be filled as a Term Appointment not to exceed 1 year, 1 day. Term Appointments may be extended up to a maximum of 6 years. Employees on Term Appointments will be separated at the end of the Term Appointment date if the not to exceed date is not extended.

Duties

Perform the simpler, repetitive, and more routine tasks involved in shelter/van overhaul. Disassemble and re-assemble and install a variety of one or more units and associate devices of wire communications, radio, radar, microwave, digital, TACFIRE, SATELLITE, avionics or DSTE equipment. Assist workers of a higher grade in the installation or replacing of electronic wire communications. Fabricate various types of cable harnesses panel and junction boxes.

Requirements

  • Completion of a pre-employment physical examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • Term appointment is subject to a one-year trial period.
  • Business travel requirement up to 25% of the time.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This is a Term position scheduled to last 1 year and 1 day. A term position may be extended to a maximum of six years depending upon the needs of management.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens Permanent employees who accept Term Appointments will not have placement rights to the previously held permanent position at the end of the Term Appointment. Employees on Term Appointments will be separated at the end of the Term Appointment date if the not to exceed date is not extended. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. To meet the basic eligibility, you must receive at least two points on the screen-out element indicated above and must have an average of two points on all the job elements listed below. Your application will be further evaluated to determine if you meet the best qualified cut-off for referral to the selecting official. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) ELECTRONICS MECHANIC HELPER ~ without more than normal supervision. Have the ability to perform common tasks in replacing components and wiring circuits, repairing simple electronics equipment AND taking test readings using common instruments such as digital multimeters and oscilloscopes. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. PHYSICAL EFFORT Works at bench in and round shelters with walking, frequent standing, stooping, climbing, bending, and kneeling and occasionally in cramped and awkward positions within shelters or vans. Required to lift and handle objects weighing up to 40 lbs, often lifts and moves heavier units, with the assistance of other workers, lifting devices and aids such as movable tables or jacks. Required to use ladder in the performance of duties. WORK CONDITIONS Work is usually performed inside well lighted, adequately heated and ventilated areas. Occasionally works outside in inclement weather. Subject to cuts, bruises, scrapes, sprains and strains from handling tools and installing equipment. Subject to burns from hot components, RF energy, microwave radiation, and electrical shock. Required to war safety clothing and equipment appropriate to the position.
