You will serve as a ATSO RedHat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) System Administrator (SA) located in the Airborne Threat Simulation Division (EB4300) of NAVAIRWARCENWPNDIV POINT MUGU.

Duties

You will perform system administrative tasking, coordinate deliverables with other functional area team members, and report status up to the leadership of the organization. You will install and test Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs), develop, modify and/or install new applications as required. You will troubleshoot and maintain operating systems, update and maintain Information Systems (IS) hardware and software lists, and assist in the development of short and long-term systems advancements. You will support Assessment and Authorization efforts by auditing hardware lists, software lists, and system diagrams as well as supporting Annual Validations.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This position is designated as a Cyber IT/Cybersecurity Workforce position. You must obtain and maintain the credentials as described in SECNAV M-5239.2 for specialty area 451 level intermediate within 12 months of appointment.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate one year of information technology related experience in the federal service or private or public sector demonstrating the following four competencies, as defined: Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail. IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: Verifying all processes, security features, and configurations are unaltered. Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services. IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: Providing support and cross-support to various cybersecurity and system administrators. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately. IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: Communicating with software developers, users, and other personnel as needed to resolve issues resulting from patching, upgrades, or other sustainment/development activities. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations. IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: Researching, analyzing impact, installing, and testing software updates, patches and hot fixes. (GS-12): In addition to experience demonstrating the four competencies above, your resume must demonstrate one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-11) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience includes duties related to the following: 1) Applying expertise in Linux and Windows operating systems configuration and management to execute IT programs and system modifications; 2) Introducing new technologies and/or methodologies into current or proposed systems to address organizational requirements; 3) Collaborating closely with supervisors, IT Specialists, and cybersecurity (CS) personnel to address IT-related matters related to planning, programming, development, modification, and adherence to IT systems policies and procedures; 4) Implementing corrective measures for immediate issues and implementing preventative measures to mitigate future occurrences. (GS-11): In addition to experience demonstrating the four competencies above, your resume must demonstrate one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-09) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience includes duties related to the following: 1) Managing the installation, testing, operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of both hardware and software systems, encompassing routers, switches, workstations, and servers; 2) Evaluating costs and various considerations to suggest appropriate system products, diagnostic tools, and upgrades, aligning with present and future requirements; 3) Demonstrating customer service abilities by devising performance measures, closely monitoring achievements, reporting on performance, and promptly responding to data requests. OR Have successfully completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree from an accredited or pre-accredited institution in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management. OR Have successfully completed 3 full years (54 hours) of progressively higher graduate level education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree from an accredited or pre-accredited institution in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management; or, graduate education that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.
