Duties
Assists in the administration of grant applications. This includes screening proposals and applications for the adequacy of data and to determine the eligibility of applicants. Checks the proposals for the sufficiency of information provided; replies to relatively routine informal inquiries about proposals and gives advice to applicants regarding agency and program policies; assists in mailing and/or otherwise preparing applications for review by panels; takes notes in panel meetings as assigned; and evaluates progress and final reports.
Provides guidance and disseminates information. Depending upon the specific grant program(s) involved, Provides basic guidance to educational institutions and/or individuals with respect to the aims and objectives of the programs and with respect to the details of applications applicable to the programs; and provides detailed information to individual applicants about the decision on their applications.
Provides assistance to Humanities Administrators and managers in other administrative/technical areas. The incumbent assists in the preparation of the Committee Book for meetings of the National Council; develops and/or gathers information on various aspects of the program of the Division for press releases and for use in responding to Congressional inquiries; develops statistical information on applications and awards; disseminates program information to appropriate sources; and maintains the currency of the NEH panelist and reviewer database.
Participates in daily administration of grants. Assists the Humanities Administrators in analyzing and responding to final reports; assists in assessing progress as described in final reports from current grantees and in evaluating special requests from current grantees for revisions in project scope, direction, and budget in order to recommend and draft responses for the consideration and approval of Humanities Administrators.
Assists in the evaluation of projects, programs, and administrative problems. Assists, as assigned, in activities involved in evaluating specific projects, sub-programs, and programs of the Division, and suggests possible changes in administrative procedures to improve day-to-day program operations.
Performs other duties as assigned. As assigned, the incumbent carries out other assignments, sometimes on his/her own initiative, to help ensure that the work of the Division is performed in a timely manner and in accordance with established deadlines.

At the GS- 09level Qualified candidates must possess:
1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 level or equivalent experience.
Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the line of work of the position to be filled and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position, for example:Specialized experience includes experience assisting with grant program administration; maintaining data through automated systems; applying analytical and evaluative methods and techniques; identifying administrative problems and recommending possible solutions; monitoring programs, budget allocations, and obligations; ensuring compliance with policy, terms and conditions.
