Duties
This is a full-time onsite position located in Washington, DC with partial telework after probation period and at discretion of the hiring manager. The Office of Information Technology (OIT) provides the development, operation, maintenance, and support of Information Systems for the Supreme Court of the United States. The OIT staff operates and administers distributed network architectures that support a fully virtualized environment of end user workstations and servers, geographically diverse data centers, website administration using a virtual machine infrastructure linked with Content Delivery Network (CDN) solution and administer several complex Local Area Networks which connects these resources.
The incumbent is responsible for design, implementation, day to day operations and optimization of the Court's network infrastructure (NI) both at the Court and various geographically diverse remote sites. The NI includes copper and fiber cable plant, routers, switches, access points, wireless controllers, firewalls, hardware load balancers, circuits, Network Management Systems (NMS), and CDN. The incumbent will be expected to split their time between operational troubleshooting and engineering projects.
The incumbent will perform technical analysis and administration of the NI that includes the following: security patching, periodic maintenance, "break-fix" actions, troubleshooting, configuring, testing, installing cable as needed, fault isolation, preventative maintenance, install hardware/software/firmware upgrades, problem solving, equipment inventory, and all other aspects of technical support. The incumbent is expected to quickly react to and resolve problems that may impact the critical functions of the Court.

Qualifications
Minimum of five years Network Infrastructure (NI) experience in the following categories:
Performing analysis and fault isolation functions, with hands-on working-level knowledge of wireless networks, routers and switches, hardware load balancers, firewalls, VPN and security appliances.
Expert level working knowledge of wireless networks, TCP/IP, Ethernet, Vlans, routing protocols (OSPF/BGP), network security, and IP traffic capturing software required.
Recent experience performing hardware set-up and installation as well as documenting installation and configuration changes on wireless NI.
Prepare detailed project plans, evaluate and implement technology enhancements, and diagnose technical faults in a complex NI.
Highly Desirable Certifications: Professional Level firewall certification, CCNP (Cisco Certified Network Professional), F5 CTS-301 (F5-Certified Technical Specialist focus in BIG-IP LTM).
Strong interpersonal communication skills, ability to communicate and understand technical information, comprehend technical instructions, evaluate problems, and assist users; ability to remain calm and professional in high stress environment when confronted with challenging situations, short timeframes, or other pressing and urgent requests.
Education
College degree in the field of engineering, computer science, or a related field preferred; however degree can be substituted for five years of experience or technical training provided by previous employer.
