The Program Support Assistant (PSA) is assigned to the Mental Health Service and works under the supervision of the respective Program Manager and performs administrative support duties with considerable latitude for the exercise of independent judgment. The PSA has responsibility for administering the day to day activities of their assigned sections and all phases of the facility specialty program.
Duties
Major duties include:
Making recommendations for improvement and monitors the efficacy of policies and procedures intended to produce improvements.
Solicit and interpret information from a variety of patients who are suffering from a variety of mental and physical disorders ensuring interactions with patients are provided in an efficient, well-coordinated manner.
Prepare or provide assistance in the preparation of reports, including data gathering, analysis, and written materials for reports internal to the Mental Health Service Line required by CAVHCS management, reports to VISN, and reports to Central Office.
Maintain office compliance regarding regulations, policies, and guidelines as established.
Serve as coverage for clerical support in a variety of Mental Health areas, assisting with scheduling patients, phone management, calling patients when necessary, etc.
Serve as one of the primary Patient Advocates for the Mental Health service, independently handling problems of a complex and sensitive nature or tactfully referring calls to other areas.
Responds to VISN suspense action items, patient complaints/compliments, requests administrative reports or audits with limited oversight.
Schedules meetings, conference calls, special orientations, presentations, program training, and equipment/supply delivery, installation and training.
Gathers quality reporting data through various programs and through coordination with the facility Group Practice Manager (GPM).
Work Schedule: Monday- Friday 8:00 am.- 4:30 p.m.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 09/06/2023.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-06. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
You may qualify based on your experience as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-06 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: managing reports and data such as performance measures, clinic utilization data, missed opportunity and no-show data, workload information, open encounters and unsigned progress notes; Independently researches, coordinates, and composes replies to routine; Responds to VISN suspense action items, patient complaints/compliments, requests administrative reports or audits with limited oversight; Schedules meetings, conference calls, special orientations, presentations, program training, and equipment/supply delivery, installation and training; and gathers quality reporting data through various programs.

Physical Requirements: Work is primarily sedentary and requires no special physical demands.
