The primary purpose of this position, ATTORNEY-ADVISOR (GENERAL) NH-0905-03, is to support the 75 ABW Staff Judge Advocate (SJA) by providing legal advice in the area of Federal employment and labor law to include employee discipline, grievances, workers' compensation issues, collective bargaining agreement interpretation, and other related matters, to the Civilian Personnel Office and management officials.
Duties
Represent the Air Force in third-party administrative proceedings concerning employment-related disputes involving commands and organizations at Hill Air Force Base.
Provide assistance to the Department of Justice (DOJ) and United States Attorney's Office on employment-related issues being pursued in U.S. District Court or in an applicable U.S. Court of Appeals.
Serve as legal advisor on employment and labor matters.
Engage in settlement negotiations as appropriate with opposing parties.
Provide assistance and guidance to eligible legal assistance clients regarding personal civil matters under AFI 51-504 (Legal Assistance, Notary, and Preventive Law Programs), in the areas of, for example, wills and estates, powers of attorney, divorce and other family matters, consumer affairs, landlord-tenant law, real property, taxes, and other general legal matters.

- Employee must be a graduate of a law school accredited by the American Bar Association, and be currently licensed as an attorney, in active (or equivalent) status and in good standing, with the bar of a U.S. state, territory, or commonwealth.
- PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work is primarily sedentary. May require some walking, standing, bending, carrying and/or lifting of light items such as paper or books. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
- WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work is performed in a typical office setting, requiring the use of normal safety precautions necessary for an office environment. The work area is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated.

Qualifications
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:
You MUST have successfully completed a full course of study in a school of law accredited by the American Bar Association (ABA) and have the first professional law degree (LLB or JD).
In addition, at the time of application, you must provide proof, dated within four months of application, of "active" status with a bar of the highest court of a State, U.S. commonwealth, U.S. territory, or the District of Columbia. On-line information is allowed as long as it shows that you are in "active" status.
I am a graduate of a law school accredited by the American Bar Association AND I am an active (or equivalent) member, in good standing, of the bar of the highest court of a state, U.S. commonwealth, U.S. territory, or the District of Columbia. I have, or will have within 120 days of closing of this announcement professional legal experience in excess of two (2) year that is commensurate with the duties and responsibilities of the position, such as: Professional legal experience should include, but is not limited to: 1) expert knowledge of laws, regulations, precedents, and procedures related to acquisition law, fiscal law, ethics law, business operations, and acquisition counsel type administrative law matters; ability to provide legal advice and assistance and prepare legal documents, advisory opinions, and recommendations to successfully resolve all legal issues such as schedule delays, impossibility of performance, claims, product substitution, interpretation of contract clauses, novation, terminations for convenience and default, and other issues; research case law and regulations relating to legal issues, writing sound and persuasive memoranda, briefs, reports, plans, and pleadings and the presentation of and opposition to, arguments and evidence made in third party proceedings and settings.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, regulations, precedents, and procedures concerning government-related litigation and federal employment and labor issues, civil law, and various legal assistance topics.
2. Ability to effectively interpret and apply law and recommend changes in legislation, policy, or regulations.
3. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
4. Ability to direct, coordinate, and review the concerted efforts of teams of specialists.
5.Ability to recognize and appropriately handle issues of precedent-setting nature, delicacy, or importance to agency goals, national and international importance, or high public interest.

Education
Must be a graduate of a law school accredited by the American Bar Association, and be currently licensed as an attorney, in active (or equivalent) status and in good standing, with the bar of a U.S. state, territory, or commonwealth. The attorney must maintain such bar membership in at least one jurisdiction during the entire course of employment with the Air Force.
