This position is being recruited under 10 USC 1599f into the Cyber Excepted Service and does NOT convey eligibility to be converted to the Competitive Service. It has been identified as a position necessary to carry out and support the mission of the US Cyber Command.
It is in the Professional Work Category at the Senior Work Level within the CES Occupational Structure. It is located in the DISA DCSC/TRANSPORT SERVICES DIRECTORATE.
Duties
Serves as a senior technical expert/adviser and key staff engineer.
Plans, coordinates, and/or manages programs and resource requirements in specialty area.
Participates with and provides expertise to program executive officers (PEOs), program and project managers, senior scientists, and hardware and software developers, technical staff and policy makers.
Performs professional engineering duties of extreme complexity in connection with the development of test plans and procedures for system/component test and evaluation of state-of-the-art equipment.
Prepares comprehensive technical analysis of the results to reflect the findings and evaluation of the automated test data, which significantly impacts on the product decisions made by key management officials.

In order to qualify for this position, you must meet the basic reaquirements:
Degree: professional engineering. To be acceptable, the curriculum must: (1) be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics.
OR
Combination of education and experience -- college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying professional engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by one of the following:

Qualifying Experience:
To qualify at the GG-13, your resume must describe at least one year of experience that demonstrates the competencies necessary for immediate success in the position. Experience refers to any paid or unpaid experience, including volunteer work and Military service, that would be considered equivalent to work normally performed at the next lower grade level in the federal service. For this position, qualifying experience is defined as: Experience using principles, techniques, and practices of Satellite Communications engineering related to system design and analysis. Experience with applying Internet Protocol network design principles, protocols, QoS, encryption standards and network management. Experience with systems engineering, test, and integration of satellite and terrestrial communications subsystems.
