This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. VA Careers - Pharmacy: https://youtube.com/embed/Fn_ickNBEws Major Duties include, but are not limited to the following: The supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Decentralized Inpatient Pharmacy Section and the programmatic and supervisory direction of clinical pharmacy services to patients admitted to TVHS sites of care. The supervisor is required to prioritize work and to make administrative decisions. Pharmacy Service Policy and Procedures, VA Regulation and State and Federal Pharmacy Laws will serve as operational guidance. The incumbent is expected to perform as a Pharmacy Leader in all aspects of his/her practice. Ensures the appropriate utilization, maintenance and care of Pharmacy Service resources. Responsible for all performance improvement activities Pharmacy including audits, peer reviews, and quality assurance. Maintains effective relations with medical, professional and administrative staffs of our institution. Provides professional guidance to medical and professional staff. Supports Pharmacy Service Management by ensuring administrative compliance with various federal and professional requirements. Maintains appropriate confidentiality of all information accessible through the patient charts and hospital computer system. Completes performance evaluations. Recommends awards and/or disciplinary actions. Has direct line supervisory responsibility for pharmacy technicians, pharmacists (staff/fee/contract), specialty technicians, residents and students as applicable. Communicates pertinent information to staff, supervisors, and administration. Successful work in this position may involve travel between the facilities. Coordinates drug conversions and initiatives associated with the VHA Operational Efficiencies program in order to maximize cost avoidance for the healthcare system. Oversees and assists in problem resolution with Inpatient and Outpatient Pharmacy sections. Responsible for completing all assignments on time. If for any reason, any assignment requires an extension, that extension will be requested prior to the due date. Independently identifies process problems and issues and works as a Team with all VA TVHS Pharmacy Supervisors to initiate Quality Assurance processes consistently across all TVHS Campuses as required to assure optimal and safe medication clinical and operational services for the Veterans. Assures that pharmacists work with other members of the healthcare team to provide the best patient outcomes possible Trains and updates other staff on the appropriate procedures and issues involving the program. Responsible for assessing, planning and evaluating the inpatient pharmacy program to ensure proper coordination between the delivery of pharmaceutical care and the overall delivery of health care. Serves as a supervisor for the clinical pharmacy services and other areas as assigned. Assists in the development, implementation and/or maintenance of plans to promote therapeutic appropriateness and safety. Responsible for participating in new program implementation, setting program goals/objectives, and monitoring progress through metrics, data, and other methods. The incumbent is responsible for detecting, monitoring and reporting adverse drug events and medication errors. The incumbent participates in conducting MUE studies and departmental quality assurance activities. The incumbent evaluates medication orders and medication profiles for appropriateness of therapy; dosage range, synergistic, antagonistic, and cumulative effects. Reviews questionable medication orders with the prescribing physicians when necessary. The incumbent provides consultation and education to physician, nurses and other health care professionals on drug information. The incumbent ensures that the patient can understand medication instruction by providing oral and written counseling on his/her drug therapy. The incumbent evaluates physician's orders as to appropriateness based on patient medication profiles; inputs information into computer system; dispenses medication in accordance with appropriate formulary requirements. Medical Center Staff Education - The incumbent is responsible for providing the medical centers staff with accurate, comprehensive information about drugs and their use and shall serve as the department's primary resource for meeting its drug information responsibilities. Qualifications

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Graduate of an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) accredited College or School of Pharmacy with a baccalaureate degree in pharmacy (BS Pharmacy) and/or a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree. Graduates of foreign pharmacy degree programs meet the educational requirement if the graduate is able to provide proof of achieving the Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Examination Commission (FPGEC) Certification, which includes passing the Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Equivalency Examination (FPGEE) and the Test of English as a Foreign Language Internet-Based Test (TOEFL iBT). Full, current and unrestricted license to practice pharmacy in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States (i.e., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia. The pharmacist must maintain current registration if this is a requirement for maintaining full, current, and unrestricted licensure. A pharmacist who has, or has ever had, any license(s) revoked, suspended, denied, restricted, limited, or issued/placed in a probationary status may be appointed only in accordance with the provisions in VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Chapter 3, section B, paragraph 16. May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria) Grade Determinations:GS-13 Experience: In addition to the GS-12 requirements, must have 1 year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level. Assignments: Candidates at this grade level are to be in one of the assignments listed below. For all assignments above the full performance level, the higher level duties must consist of significant scope, administrative independence, complexity (difficulty) and range of variety as described in this standard at the specified grade level and be performed by the incumbent at least 25% of the time. Pharmacy Supervisor: Responsible for the professional and administrative management of an assigned area in pharmacy service, to include budgetary execution. Such individuals have responsibilities for supervising multiple pharmacists and technicians. Manages people, maintains effective interdepartmental relations, and cooperates with other services to accomplish the medical facility's mission and goals. Develops performance standards, assures that the program area is compliant with all regulatory and accrediting body requirements, designs and implements orientation and training programs for staff, and develops and maintains systems to monitor the performance of staff activities. Develops policies and procedures relative to their assigned area. Pharmacists assigned to this position must demonstrate the following KSAs: a. Ability to effectively supervise subordinate staff. b. Ability to communicate orally and in writing to persuade and influence clinical and management decisions. c. Expert understanding of regulatory and quality standards pertaining to pharmacy. d. Physical Requirements: Work may involve prolonged standing and/or walking. Work involves lifting of weights up to 40 pounds. Incumbent will be subject to bending and stooping.
