The primary purpose of this position is to provide a Major Command (MAJCOM)/Direct Reporting Unit (DRU) level security specialist to manage the command information security (INFOSEC) and operations security (OPSEC) programs.
Duties
Manages the information security program and monitors the security administration program for the organization.
Lead OPSEC Program Manager: Serves as the command's OPSEC Program Manager and liaison to the AF OPSEC Program Manager.
Assists organizations security managers and implements the security education program.

- Department of Defense Security Fundamentals Professional Certification (SFPC) and Security Asset Protection Professional Certification (SAPPC) conferrals are required within 2 years of the established employee EOD
- Or initial assignment date to this position in accordance with DOD 3305.13-M, DoD Security Accreditation and Certification.

- The employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours; including evenings, weekends, and/or holidays. Overtime may be required.
Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Administrative and Management Positions.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-11, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes applying knowledge of a wide range of security disciplines and OPSEC concepts, principles, and practices and requirements applicable to the information protection program to include: Acquisition security, program protection, information security, physical security, personnel security, industrial security, and operational security in order to perform the full range of complex security and OPSEC management responsibilities. And working with a broad range of security and OPSEC program relationships, and proficiency in information, physical, personnel, industrial, OPSEC security to effectively implement and administer applicable security and OPSEC programs and/or coordinate with other specialized programs. Applying Knowledge military command structure, missions, programs and organizational relationships and program goals and objectives, the sequence and timing of key operational events and milestones and methods of evaluating the effectiveness of planning actions as related to actual events.
FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-11 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-12 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. In-depth knowledge of administrative security methods, concepts, principles, and practices for one or more security program disciplines; such as information, operations, personnel, physical, information system, and industrial security.
2. Knowledge of the organization, structure, and missions of the Department of Defense, Joint Staff and Combatant Commands, the Services, and intelligence agencies.
3. Skill in developing, analyzing, evaluating, and applying complex security concepts and principles and ability to effectively meet command mission requirements in the area of information protection to ensure compliance with strict agency guidelines for the protection of classified information.
4. Ability to establish effective working relationships with co-workers and professionally interact with officials at all levels to facilitate mission accomplishment.
5. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
