THIS VACANCY WILL BE FILLED USING DIRECT-HIRE AUTHORITY FOR DOMESTIC DEFENSE INDUSTRIAL BASE (DIB) FACILITIES AND THE MAJOR RANGE AND TEST FACILITIES BASE (MRTFB) IN THE DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE.
This is a TERM position scheduled to last at least one (1) year and 1 (1) day. TERM positions may be extended to a maximum of six years depending upon the needs of management.
Duties
Perform moderately complex assignments such as disassembling, maintaining, troubleshooting, testing, repairing, fabricating, and assembling components and other electronics equipment.
Utilize a wide array of electronic test equipment to troubleshoot electronic equipment.
Follow manufacturer?s specifications, schematics, diagrams and technical orders.
Use a variety of tools for proper assembly of electronic equipment.
Conduct all required electrical tests, diagnose malfunctions, and make needed repairs.
Formulate solutions for correct repair of electronic equipment and components.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- This position requires shift work and overtime, which may be required on short notice, to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
- Twenty five percent (25%) business travel or temporary duty (TDY) required.
- Employee must possess or be able to obtain and maintain the Associate Level Certified Electronics Technician certification per Electronics Technicians Association, International, within two (2) years of placement into the position.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year trial period.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Electronics Mechanic ~ without more than normal supervision. Duties include 1) Testing, troubleshooting, repairing and overhauling moderately complex electronic equipment and systems; 2) Analyzing, isolating, modifying and maintaining moderately complex units and components; AND 3) Installing a variety of electronic devices and components. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
To meet the basic eligibility, you must receive at least two points on the screen-out element indicated above and must have an average of two points on all the job elements listed below. Your application will be further evaluated to determine if you meet the best qualified cut-off for referral to the selecting official.
PHYSICAL EFFORT: Frequently lifts and handles equipment up to about 40 pounds. Work is performed sitting at bench or standing at test sites and requires frequent standing, walking, bending, crouching, reaching, and stooping.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Normally works inside well lighted, heated, and ventilated shop. Works at on-site locations as required on TDY assignments. Work outside is usually performed in good weather conditions but may be required to work in adverse conditions on priority items. Exposed to possibility of serious burns caused by electrical shock, RF energy and hot components, and to microwave radiation. Subject to cuts, bruises, and scrapes from handling tools and equipment.
