Duties

SUMMARY CONTINUED: ranges, inspecting, performing sub-depot repairs, and maintaining small arms and light weapons, and planning and conducting classroom, laboratory, and or field instruction sessions using approved lesson plans as a guide. DUTIES: Manages and/or performs Armory operations duties to safeguard weapons, ammunition and equipment. Performs field maintenance, minor repairs, and inspection of SA/LW. Conducts classroom, laboratory or field instruction for Security Forces Courses. Monitors/reports individual and unit accomplishment of training requirements. Accomplishes special projects/additional duties.

  • Incumbent may be required to stand for several hours at a time while instructing in a classroom environment.

  • The employee will be expected to maintain appropriate grooming standards and present a professional image.
  • Employee required to complete a pre-implement physical and periodic re-examinations required by the employer.
  • Must qualify and maintain qualification on all security forces weapons systems and possess ability to demonstrate operation, maintenance and combat employment of all weapons systems.
  • This position is covered by the Lautenberg Amendment.
  • This position is covered by the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program. Incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use and must refrain from the use of illicit drugs as a condition for continued employment in this position.
  • IAW DoDI 3020-42 this position has been locally or command designated as Mission Essential (ME); needed to ensure the continued operation of mission essential functions of the activity.
  • This is a Mission-Essential position performing a Mission-Critical-Function which must continue uninterrupted after the occurrence of an emergency and continued through full resumption of all functions
  • Position requires access to firearms. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence may not occupy this position in accordance with the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968, as amended 30 Sep 96.

  • Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Administrative and Management Positions, Training Instruction Series, 1712. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-07, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes 1) Teaching or instructing in an adult education program, secondary school, college, military installation, or industrial establishment in the appropriate field(s). 2) Supervising or administering a training program. 3) Development or review of training/course materials, aids, devices, etc., and evaluation of training results. 4) Work in the occupation or subject-matter field of the position to be filled that required training or instructing others on a regular basis. Note: Resume must show supporting details. OR EDUCATION: Master's or equivalent graduate degree OR 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree OR a LL.B. or J.D. Education must have major study in education or a subject area related to the position to be filled. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts. OR COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: A combination of graduate level education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in?-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-07 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-09 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of Armory operations and procedures. Knowledge of principles, techniques, and safety of instruction used in combat arms weapons training, firing range instruction, weapons security, and combat arms minor repair procedures. Skills in combat arms resources management, including maintenance of assigned weapons, classrooms, firing range structures, munitions buildings, and weapons storage facilities. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and instruct training courses in a classroom seminar setting. Knowledge of special operating requirements, methods, and procedures for enforcing specialized personnel access controls and preventing unauthorized access to areas where stringent security requirements are enforced. Knowledge of basic budget preparation as it applies to preparing operating and capital expenditure training budgets. Skill in developing course materials and presenting formal and informal courses and briefings. Ability to gather, develop, and analyze a variety of data and to make recommendations based on analysis. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, to include long periods of standing and speaking clearly to 100 plus students. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

ACTIVE DUTY SERVICE MEMBERS: The VOW Act requires federal agencies to treat an eligible active duty service member as a veteran, disabled veteran, and preference eligible (as applicable) when applying for civil service positions before the effective release or discharge date. Appointment of military members before the release or discharge date is permissible if the member is on terminal leave. At the time the active duty member applies for a civil position, he or she must submit a "certification" memo in lieu of a DD-Form 214, Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty. Active duty members applying for a civil service position without submitting a valid certification memo or DD-Form 214 with their application will render the member ineligible for the position. The certification memo must originate from the member's military service branch on official letterhead and contain the following:
