This position is located within the Roseburg VA Health Care System (RVAHCS), Environmental Management Service (EMS) as part of the Textile Care Processing Facility (TCPF). The incumbent is responsible for ensuring accurate stock levels and customer service request are processed accurately for the Health Care System.
Duties
Major Duties include but not limited to:
Material Handling - Linen Distribution
Receives, stores, issues, and sorts a wide variety of medical linens for all facilities within the Roseburg VA Health Care System and lnteragency Agreement Facilities. Ensures accuracy of orders processed for lnteragency Agreement Facilities, records weights and enters data into Linen Management database.
Receives, identifies, validates, loads exchange carts and delivery carts with correct par levels of clean linen items. Compares quantity with baseline Par levels (as prescribed on Par level Memo) and information received from ward-masters (patient census, unusual situations, problems, etc.). Monitors and adjust Par levels within Linen Management database to ensure optimal efficiency of inventory. Reviews for accuracy all daily requests for linen supplies. Prepares requests for those activities that are on the cart exchange system using established daily requirements.
Selects linens by type, size and quantity, and loads them into transport carts. Moves cart with new day's linen to ward area(s). Coordinates with the Nursing Station Staff daily for hospital linen needs. Performs inventory of linen by counting quantities of items remaining on wards and clinics linen racks and adjusts daily linen order to replenish par level. Follows established standard operating procedures to wipe down carts prior to re-delivery. Uses computerized automatic transport system to ship linen supplies to activities within the Medical Center. Notifies Chief, Environmental Services when operating level of linens is too low to meet demand, selects necessary quantities of linens from shelf stock and places into operating stock. Performs various duties in the Hospital Duty White Section including issuing and receiving uniforms to hospital staff, inventory, stocking and records keeping. Participates in physical inventory of all hospital linens and hospital whites.
Moves linen supplies via hand cart, dolly, or similar manual equipment delivering or picking up to or from wards, clinics, or the laundry. Weighs linen and records weight. Maintains inventory of replenishment items, those issued and stored. Maintains the linen warehouse of reserve linen stock. Participates in semiannual inventory. Performs count of items in designated areas, completes inventory forms, reconciles discrepancies in accordance with established procedures. Maintains hand receipts for linen supplies delivered to clinics.
Coordinates daily transportation procedures for delivery of linen to receiving locations with Motor Vehicle Operator. Determines which items will be repaired or salvaged and prepares/sorts IAW prescribed procedures. Coordinates shipping of salvaged items. Incumbent schedules semi? annual inventories of all hospital linen used in a patient care environment. Assists the representatives from each linen using area in the identification and inventory requirements throughout the hospital. Ensures that adequate supply of linen is issued to cover weekends and holidays. Responsible for housekeeping and adherence to good safety practices and JCAHO standards.
Laundry Worker
The incumbent must know and be able to perform all duties and responsibilities of a WG-2 Textile Care Worker and will accomplish such duties when deemed necessary by his/her immediate Supervisor. The incumbent must be cooperative, exercise tact, diplomacy, and good judgment at all times while dealing with staff, visitors, and patients. Must be capable of working well as a team member.
Administration
Ensures that records are maintained of linen sent to and returned from laundry, enters data into Linen Management database. Submits descriptive listing of all items (i.e. nomenclature, size, etc.) to supervisor. Reports linen shortages and damaged linen losses to supervisor. Submits requests for purchases of linens to supervisor.

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. The ability to do the position of a Material Handler without more than normal supervision which includes knowledge of inventory management programs and be able to consistently track and adjust par levels and monitor trends to minimize hording, linen loss, or waste. Incumbent must be able to quickly identify various linen items, must be familiar with the Medical Center layout in order to perform assigned duties. Position requires transporting heavy carts loaded with linens by means of vehicle or hand pushing to designated areas or collection points for shipment to and from the laundry facility. Incumbent must communicate effectively with using department personnel and coordinates special or unusual linen needs with laundry. Handling of clean and soiled linens to prevent cross contamination and reduce potential lost time injuries. Incumbent must remain up-to-date and utilize correct infection control procedures applied to clean linen storage. Must be skilled in the operation of gas-powered towing vehicle used in delivery/pickup.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Duties require frequent maneuvering of heavy carts; both soil and clean, from using areas, carts that sometimes have a gross weight of 800 pounds or more. Incumbent is required to do extensive walking, pushing, pulling, stooping, bending and lifting of laundry bags, sometimes more than 75 pounds when linens are wet.
While the major portion of the incumbent's work is performed indoors on access ramps and hallways that are covered, and of which are adequately lighted, incumbent is required to travel back and forth from the laundry to the Medical Center in the outdoors. Employee is subject to cold and wet weather when traveling the outdoors. Also, during winter months, early daily hours require employee to work in areas where temperatures are less than normal. Incumbent may also be subject to possible health hazards from handling soiled linens. Incumbent is subject to muscle stain because of bending, stooping, pulling, pushing, and lifting.
