The primary purpose of this position: Provide general engineering support to the acquisition life-cycle supporting AFTAC programs and systems. Supports effective research, development, simulation, testing, fielding, sustainment, and improvement of AF capabilities by identifying engineering requirements,
resolving deficiencies, integrating systems, and providing needed engineering data and infrastructure.
Duties
Performs multidisciplinary professional engineering work and configuration control work involving the application of electronics, mechanical, aerospace, and/or other engineering disciplines to determine the intelligence needs of customers in the acquisition, development, and/or sustainment of weapon systems, subsystems, support systems, equipment items, or an equivalent product.
Provides supportability analysis of AFTAC Acquisition programs, systems, and processes.
Serves as an engineering consultant and technical expert to senior officials, mission specialists, program managers, and/or other agency representatives.
Participates in working groups and prepares correspondence, briefings, specifications, and other documentation relevant to assigned projects.

Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Professional and Scientific Positions.
This is a GG-13 position in the Defense Civilian Intelligence Personnel System (DCIPS). The GG-13 duties for the "Professional" work category are at the "Full Performance" work level and are equivalent to those at the GS-13 level. The selectee's salary will be set within the grade equivalent to a GS/GG grade based on the selectee's qualifications in relation to the job.
Individual Occupational Requirements
Education: Degree: Engineering. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by ABET; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. Combination of education and experience: Combination of education and experience -- college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Your resume must reflect the quality level of experience which demonstrates the possession of the knowledge, skills, abilities, and competencies necessary for successful job performance required for this position. Examples of creditable experience include: Knowledge of a wide range of multidisciplinary professional engineering concepts, principles, practices, standards, methods, techniques, materials, and equipment to effectively apply advanced engineering theories, principles, and concepts to support project development, execution, and advisory services.
Knowledge of acquisition policy and guidance, and the role plays throughout a mission system's life-cycle; Acquisition analysis mission and strategy; and the roles and responsibilities of SD offices in support of AFTAC research laboratories, acquisition program offices, and life-cycle management, nuclear, sustainment, and system testing enterprises. NOTE: Creditable experience may include previous military experience, experience gained in the private sector, or experience gained in another government agency.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

Ability to apply engineering cycle knowledge, methodologies, principles, and concepts to accurately identify engineering and mission requirements or shortfalls in support of mission systems, subsystems, and/or support equipment to determine potential courses of action, provide technical advice and direction, and/or recommend solutions to satisfy open requirements and resolve shortfalls.
Skill in communicating effectively with others, both orally and in writing, in working out solutions to problems or questions related to the work, writing clear and concise intelligence products, and delivering written and/or verbal presentations to senior level audiences for decision-making purposes.
Ability to devise and evaluate criteria, parameters, characteristics, and interrelationships for design approaches; to assess the impact of new technology on current systems and processes; and to gather, assemble, and analyze facts, form conclusions, and devise and recommend solutions to problems.
Ability to quickly assimilate disparate data; render knowledgeable and accurate assessments of the implication of such data, and make decisions, estimates, and recommendations under conditions of urgency and competing resources based on mature judgment and experience, and present and/or defend a position effectively.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT CONTINUED:
Position is designated special-sensitive and requires eligibility for access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI), other intelligence-related Special Sensitive information, or involvement in Top Secret Special Access Programs (SAP) to fully perform the duties and responsibilities of the position. A non-disclosure agreement must be signed.
This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program. Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing. Illegal drug use by employees in sensitive positions presents a clear threat to the mission of the Air Force, national security, and public safety.
This position has been designated as an acquisition position and is covered by the Acquisition Professional Development Program (APDP). The employee must meet, or be capable of meeting Defense Acquisition Work Improvement Act (DAWIA) certification requirements applicable to Engineering, Level 2 within 24 months of assignment or secure an approved waiver. The employee must meet 80 hours of continuous learning requirements within the designated timeframe.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
