A successful candidate in this position will serve as a Supervisory General Engineer or Physical Scientist to provide technical expertise providing Program Support for the Weapons Program between NNSA Headquarters program elements and Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) operations.
Duties
As a General Engineer you will:
Conducts walk-through inspections of the facilities and/or operations for the purpose of identifying hazards, incidents of non-compliance with standards and guidelines, and potential problem areas.
Analyzes and evaluates contractor operational and implementation plans including: operating systems, processes, formality of operations, material flows, waste streams, instruments/alarms, control room practices, maintenance and construction, quality assurance, safety, health and environmental activities.
Observes, appraises and evaluates contractor performance through surveillance, field observations, coordination, and evaluation of operational integration of production, environmental compliance, maintenance, utility operations, quality of performance, and industrial, radiological and/or nuclear safety.
Ensures that activities are performed within approved safe operating envelopes and in compliance with applicable orders, laws, and regulations.
Makes contractor and site management aware of issues and concerns and assesses potential solutions to regulatory, technical and/or programmatic issues and requirements.
Work requires constant and extensive probing and analysis to identify and resolve complex technical and operational problems that involve conflicting points of view, controversial findings, or unprecedented technical issues.
Qualifications
A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower NNSA pay band level or GS grade level in the Federal Service, i.e.. EN/NN-03 pay band or GS-13. Specialized experience for this position is defined as
Developing and overseeing technical evaluations or assessments or audits or surveillances, and conducting safety or quality assurance analysis of industrial, nuclear or non-nuclear facility operating systems and design; and/or construction
Overseeing and preparing, reviewing and finalizing evaluations or assessments of facility maintenance or facility operations activities
Lead the analysis of or independently analyze performance trends and examining records and activities to determine strengths and weaknesses in contractor performance.
Providing leadership and oversight of on-site project/program management of nuclear, high-hazard, and non-nuclear operations to accomplish mission.

0801:
- Degree: Engineering. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by ABET; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics.
- Combination of education and experience -- college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by one of the following: 1) Professional registration or licensure; 2) Written Test; 3) Specified academic course; 4) Related curriculum. - Degree: Physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics.
