A successful candidate in this position will serves as the Senior Nuclear Material Control and Accountability (MC&A) Program Manager regarding MC&A program management, control, measurement, accounting and physical inventory.
Duties
As a General Engineer or Physical Scientist, you will:
Develop policies and procedures to guide and control safeguards operations at LANL. Develops site? specific program goals, objectives, and milestones to guide and measure contractor performance.
Review, audits and analyzes the LANL Nuclear Material Control and Accountability measurement and physical inventory to ensure compliance with DOE/NNSA safeguards requirements.
Review, evaluate and assist LANL management and technical staff toward completing, updating, and validating the Site Safeguards and Security Plan documents for LANL and sub-contractors' sites. These documents and the MC&A plan serve as formal security authorization basis documents between LANL and the DOE/NNSA.
Prepare and present (written and oral) clear and concise reports, briefings, policy, direction and/or guidance.
Qualifications
Specialized Experience:
A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower NNSA pay band or GS grade level in the Federal Service i.e., EN/NN-03 or GS-13. Specialized experience for this position is defined as: (must demonstrate at least 3 of 4)
1. Experience applying security management procedures to oversee, evaluate, and manage safeguards and physical security systems for nuclear weapons.
2. Experience providing security oversight of special nuclear material and sensitive data and identify vulnerabilities and efficiency levels of such systems.
3. Experience conducting inspections or surveys to determine the adequacy of complex security systems or controls.
4. Experience identifying security system design or controls to recommend modifications or propose proper application.

0801:
- Degree: Engineering. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by ABET; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics.
- Combination of education and experience -- college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by one of the following: 1) Professional registration or licensure; 2) Written Test; 3) Specified academic course; 4) Related curriculum. - Degree: Physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics.
