About the Position:
This announcement may be used to fill similar positions at various offices within the Engineer Research Development Center (ERDC) located in Vicksburg, Mississippi.
Multiple positions will be filled from this announcement.
Some positions may be subject to a SECRET clearance.
Duties
Provide customer service and communicate clearly and interact via face-to-face, telephone, email, and other modes of communication.
Organize and prepare approval material for processes such as conferences, official correspondence, training, and foreign travel as required.
Respond to phone, fax, email, and other correspondence. You will prepare, process, and post travel orders, government vehicle requests, and travel vouchers for Branch staff.
Verify time and attendance using the automated Corps of Engineers Financial Management System (CEFMS), ensuring availability of funds and accurate timekeeping and leave reporting by staff.
Maintain leave, travel, and telework status of all branch members on a shared calendar. You will also use Microsoft Outlook or similar systems to coordinate and schedule branch activities, meetings, activities as required.
Maintain branch files as required by applicable regulations. You will format, print, route and mail documents and correspondence as requested.
You will use automated Purchase Request and Commitments (PRAC's) to order supplies.
Assist in analyzing and interpreting new and changing legislation, regulations, directives, policies and procedures related to the administrative functions.
Assist in developing policies, guidelines and operating procedures to ensure compliance and efficiency.
Prepare data reports, spreadsheets and charts for briefings.
Other duties as assigned.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience with includes at least 3 of the 4 tasks: (1) interfacing with military and or civilian officials and visitors; (2) arranging meetings and briefings at the executive confidential levels; (3) making extensive and complex travel arrangements to include preparation of post-travel vouchers; and/or (4) establishing and maintaining office files. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service DK-2 (GS-05).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-05).

This position is covered by the Science and Technology Laboratory Personnel Management Demonstration Project at the DK-0303-03 (equivalent to GS-06-07). In accordance with the Federal Register Vol. 63, No. 57, dated March 25, 1998, Laboratory Demonstration Project employees must have a current average performance score of at least 2.5 or equivalent (fully successful rating) for promotion consideration.
