The Lead File Clerks works in the Health Information Management File Room/Scanning Unit. The Lead Scanning Specialist leads GS-4 , Scanning Clerks.
Duties
Duties include but are not limited to:
Incumbent will lead a team of GS-4 level File/Clerks Scanners and perform duties related to the receipt, intake, indexing, and transfer of health and administrative information.

Scanning hardware and software.
Maintain a daily productive log of scanning and indexing activities.
Sort loose medical record documents daily.
Conduct follow-up activities, which require tact and persistence when information isnot received in a timely fashion
Directly responsible for pulling and retrieving medical records for other indirect patient care activities i.e., research, quality management, external peer reviews, utilization review, etc.
Distribute workload to his/her team.
Train new hires on methods, techniques and scanning programs used.
Maintain program and administrative reference materials, policies, procedures and other written procedures from the supervisor.
Research, learn and apply a wide range of qualitative and or quantitative methods to identify and analyze and improve team effectiveness, efficiency and work products.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:30pm

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 09/08/2023.
You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-04 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
Manages filing sequence of both administrative and medical records necessary to properly index and scan information into VISTA and perform data entry responsibilities.
Utilize multiple systems and current computer technology regarding imaging applications, PC Fax applications, and numerous VISTA applications.
Scanning, uploading, indexing, and destruction of nonelectronic health records and electronic health record.
Communicating effectively with internal and external customers
Ensure that all necessary health/administrative information is integrated into Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS) through PC scanning hardware and Vista Imaging software

Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have successfully completed 4 years above high school in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. This education was obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university..
OR,
Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have a combination of specialized experience and education beyond high school education as described above that demonstrates my ability to perform the duties of this position. For the GS-05, only education in excess of 60 semester hours (2 years) is creditable. Transcripts must be submitted with application if using education to qualify.

Physical Requirements: The work involves considerable walking, standing and bending in searching form various files. There isoccasional lifting and carrying of such items as record boxes and bulky files.
