Duties
If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team in the Network Administration Section of the Information Technology Division at the United States Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia that is responsible for planning, administering, advising and evaluating IT services and providing office-wide IT end-user customer support.
Typical work assignments will include:
- Creates utilization reports in the monitoring of server file storage.
- Utilizes file recovery methods to restore files which were deleted.
- Collaborates with Administrator regarding testing, quality assurance, configuration, installation, implementation, maintenance and management of network systems.
- Assists with security patching, reimaging of machines and security issues.
- Diagnoses and resolves computer software and hardware issues.
Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.
Requirements
- You must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
- Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.
- You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable.
- If selected, you may be required to complete a one year probationary period.
- Time-in-Grade: Federal employees must meet time-in-grade requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement.
- You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement and before placement in the position.
- You must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret (Sensitive compartmented Information) security clearance.
Qualifications
To be found qualified at the GS-12 level, you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in the Federal service and demonstrating the competencies listed below.
Experience must be IT related; the experience may be demonstrated by paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training (for example, IT certification(s)).Individuals must have IT-related experience and training demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below.
Attention to Detail: Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.
Customer Service: Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work until provides, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.
Oral Communication: Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and respond appropriately.
Problem Solving: Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.

Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position, and is typically in or related to the position to be filled. Examples of specialized experience are creating and maintaining new user directories and data files; creating, managing and archiving electronic mailboxes; providing version upgrades and managing user licenses for computer software; creating, maintaining and managing all computer network queues and IP address management; assisting in electronic records management and searched of electronic data; creating reports; and providing customer service to include training users and installing, configuring, troubleshooting, and maintaining customer hardware and software.
