This Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist position is located at the Orlando VA Medical Center - Lake Nona Campus in Orlando, FL serving as an Imaging Coordinator for VISN 8 Radiology and Nuclear Medicine Integrated Clinical Community (ICC) Services.
Duties
The Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist serves as VISN 8 Imaging Coordinator. The Imaging Coordinator will advise and lead on all aspects of the VISN 8 Imaging Program - with a special emphasis in Women's Imaging. He/She will work in collaboration with the Women Veterans Program and be responsible for the oversight of in-house and community breast imaging, supporting the mission of improving and standardizing breast imaging throughout VISN 8. In this capacity, the VISN 8 Imaging Coordinator provides consultation and guidance to all VISN 8 accredited/certified mammography programs to ensure compliance.
Duties include, but not limited to:
Plans, organizes, and studies best practices and/or efficiencies throughout the VISN 8 Mammography programs, and negotiates effectively with VISN 8 leadership to accept and implement recommendations.
Monitors and maintains oversight of the implementation of the Radiology Mammography Reporting System for VISN 8. Identifies issues and problems that require resolution and works with facility key staff members to assure they are resolved.
Assists the VISN 8 Lead Radiologist by conducting special studies and reviews involving a range of Radiology and Nuclear Medicine functions.
Develops, analyzes, and reports data metrics for mammography programs and other VISN 8 Radiology and Nuclear Medicine programs for release at the VISN and facility levels.
Leads VISN 8 governance groups, and actively engages in the National Radiology Program Office, Diagnostics, and Primary Care ICCs calls.
Participates in discussions, meetings, conferences, and conference calls with agency administrators, senior subject matter and technical personnel, and other federal agency officials to secure and provide information, investigate facts, present conclusions, recommendations, and alternatives within VISN 8.
Remains acutely aware of internal and external issues and organizational or political dynamics affecting healthcare delivery in VISN 8 and applies that knowledge in interactions with program officials and other individuals external to VISN 8.
Reviews and manages documents and/or administrative records for completeness and accuracy.
Interprets imaging requests and instructions from medical providers. Carries out duties in support the Radiology Service, under the direction of a Supervising Radiologist.
Performing other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:
United States Citizenship: Be a citizen of the United States. (Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified candidates in accordance with VA Handbook 5005, Part II, chapter 3, section A, paragraph 3g.)
Education: Completion of a full-time training course of at least 24 months in duration (or the equivalent) in a post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program, evidenced by a certificate or an associate degree, accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) or from [other accrediting agencies as recognized by the Department of Education (DOE)
Loss of Credential: An employee in this occupation who fails to obtain certification within two years, or who fails to maintain the required certification must be removed from the occupation, which may also result in termination of employment.
English Language Proficiency: DRTs must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), and 7407(d).
Grade Determinations: GS-13
Experience: At least one year of experience comparable to the next lower grade level GS-12 that fully meets the KSAs at that level. Candidates at this grade level (GS-12) may perform a full range of supervisory duties, including responsibility for assignment of work performed, recommendations for appointments, awards advancements, etc. Served as a consultant to other facility personnel in evaluating and planning radiologic technology services for the most complex cases, participated in research studies and/or as a consultant to others conducting research. Planned, assessed, and evaluated the delivery of radiologic technologic services at the facility.
In addition, the candidate must demonstrate all of the following technical KSAs:
Knowledge of VISN or national initiatives and/or intra-agency workgroups or committees.
Ability to develop and/or recommend national policies and/or directives.
Ability to perform VHA Central Office special projects and activities.
Skill in managing resources at a complex facility or organization, i.e., space, equipment, supplies, personnel a regional or national level.]

The full performance level of this vacancy is GS-13. The actual grade at which an applicant may be selected for this vacancy is in the range of GS-13.
Physical Requirements: Physical demands of the work include: Heavy Lifting, 45 pounds and over; moderate carrying, 15-44 pounds; pushing up to 4 hours; reaching above shoulders; use of fingers, good dexterity (both hands required); prolonged walking, prolonged standing; repeated bending; ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20; ability to distinguish basic colors; hearing (aid permitted); speed in working; and emotional stability. Must have the ability to stand and work while wearing a lead apron for possibly long periods of time.
