About the Position: This position is located with the U.S. Army Research and Development Center (ERDC), INFRASTRUCTURESCIENCE & ENG BRANCH MATERIALS & STRUCTURES BRANCH.
Duties
Technical oversight and guidance of the research activities of the Materials and Structures Branch.
Oversight of unique facilities used in research and development that support the civil works, installation, and military engineering missions.
Develops and Accepts Work. Markets capabilities and identifies opportunities; develops support agreements with customers; facilitates work acceptance and laboratory approvals of work.
Executes Work. Leads the Materials and Structures Branch in applying science and technology to solve problems; identifies and provides resources; oversees acquisition of supplies and services; ensures good customer service.
Transfers Research Technology. Enforces standards for quality; performs quality assurance on proposals and deliverables.
Manages Personnel. Recruits, mentors and retains personnel; evaluates performance and provides recognition; supports career development goals.
Manages Operations. Oversees programs, projects and facilities; maintain good communication with employees; maintain branch property.
Plans Strategically. Contributes to laboratory and ERDC-level strategic planning; leads strategic human capital actions; updates assets to position the Materials and Structures Branch for new research opportunities.
Personal Development. Participates in supervisory and leadership training; uses feedback from customers and staff to improve effectiveness.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires pre-employment financial disclosure and annually thereafter in accordance with DoD Directive 5500-7-R.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 25% of the time.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
- One-year supervisory probationary period may be required. A one-year probationary period is required if the selectee has not previously met this requirement.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a two year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.

In addition you must meet:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes Planning and executing programs of multidisciplinary research, technical guidance of research activities, and managing laboratory space and equipment used for testing structural components and systems. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service DB-03 (GS-11).
