This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: Operates target devices including legacy, RETS/ERETS, INGATS/NGATS, TRACR, non-standard and Future Army System of Integrated Targets (FASIT) compliant devices.
Duties
Inspect, test, service, adjust, install, replace, clean, troubleshoot and field test target mechanisms and hit sensors.
Replace and repair defective hardware and parts at organizational-level maintenance.
Provide technical assistance to units using the facility and oversees all activities for compliance with range and safety regulations/polices.
Program and operate computer systems supporting target scenario operation and scoring.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license, and any installation, DOD and/or Federal license or certification required for vehicle operated. Must complete the Army Accident-Avoidance Course.
- May be required to wear and/or use protective clothing and equipment in accordance with established health and safety regulations.
- This position requires the incumbent to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations in the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations (natural or man-made disaster).
- This position requires the incumbent to frequently lift 50 pounds.

Physical Effort: Requires frequent lifting, positioning and carrying of target, gas, tools and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Items weighing in excess of 50 pounds normally involve more than one person. Work requires frequent bending, stooping, walking, and standing, working in cramped positions and climbing up and down steep flights of stairs (80 to 100 feet). Must possess normal depth perception and color vision. Requires prolonged standing on concrete floors and walking over rough and uneven terrain. Long-term walking across severe terrain is considered normal. During firefighting operations must work in rough terrain, carrying heavy loads during day and night operations. Must possess near-normal hearing to achieve minimum standards for use of radio equipment, to conduct coordination with others in inside and outside environments, to hear commands given during range firing and to hear abnormal sounds that may indicate a malfunction or failure of equipment.
Working Conditions: Works inside and outside during all types of weather conditions. Works inside in areas which may be dusty, drafty, noisy and unheated. Stands on concrete floors and works on ranges in rough terrain. Works around military combat and tactical wheeled and tracked vehicles and heavy equipment during live-fire operations. Exposed to danger of live-fire ranges, pyrotechnics, laser frequencies and explosives. May be exposed to sulfuric acid when handling batteries used in operating remotely-controlled target devices. Is exposed to the possibility of abrasions, cuts, burns, electrical shock, falls, vehicle accidents, snake bites, skin irritants from poisonous plants and explosive charges equivalent to ?-pound charge of TNT. Hearing protective devices, hard hats with face shield and other safety equipment and devices are issued or available for use. Required to enter impact areas containing unexploded munitions. Environmental differential pay is authorized when the incumbent is required to work in areas generating a threat from unstable dud munitions. Safety gear, including helmets, hearing protection, and eyewear may be defeated by exceptionally long hair. Hair must be maintained to support use of this equipment. Works in an environment involving a mixed workforce; of civilian and military personnel.
