About the Position: This position is located within the Department of Pathology, Anatomical Pathology at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, MD.

Duties
Ensure lab tests, dictionaries, and files established in automated health care database systems are accurate and updated.
Perform quality assurance analyses of computer output to ensure processing accuracy and satisfaction of user requirements.
Assist in writing and maintaining departmental Standard Operating Procedures.
Define, create, and extract data necessary for the department and requesting services within the hospital.
Monitor turnaround times for all surgical and autopsy reports, ensuring all reports are completed in a timely manner.
Prepare various technical/non-technical typed documents such as transcribing dictation from voice recordings or working from written notes/drafts.
Accession of wet and dry tissues for the pathologist.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Tier 3 security investigation or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- This position may be designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
- This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing.
- This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes use of automated healthcare database systems to monitor reports and input, maintain, and access patient care data; independently carry out familiar assignments in accordance with previous instructions; and receiving, accessioning, and labeling of pathology specimens. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

Proficiency Required:This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.
