About the Position: This position is with the Director for Medicine in the Department of Medicine Allergy-Immunization located at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.
This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
Duties
Serve as Scheduling Coordinator, Receptionist, Template Manager, Appointments Coordinator, and Managed Medical Care Consultant.
Develop, and implement policies and procedures for front desk operations.
Resolve scheduling and appointment problems.
Initiate and perform various clerical, record keeping, and miscellaneous duties required for the proper and timely treatment and care of patients.
Utilize an in-depth knowledge of the mission and functions of the clinic to prepare reports based upon the requirements specified and the intended use of the data or report.
Run recurring and special reports within automated systems to provide quantitative data upon which to base operational decisions.
Take raw data from standard reports and develops charts and graphs to demonstrate trends and/or anomalies in the data; identifies possible trends and patterns from the data gathered; and uses the data to support process improvements.
Receive all patients in person or telephonically.
Read and interpret the referring consults, doctors' notes and/or drug treatment protocol in order to select and schedule the appropriate tests.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Tier 3 security investigation or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
- This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing.

Specialized Experience GS-06: One year of specialized experience which includes developing and implementing policies and procedures for front desk of a medical treatment facility (MTF); trouble shooting clinical/user problems with automated systems; training staff on automated systems; preparing a variety of reports utilizing MTF office automation tools; and knowledge of medical terminology. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.
