This position is located in the Office of the Deputy Commissioner for Trademark Examination Policy (DC-TMEP). The DC-TMEP division is mandated with developing, communicating, and measuring consistency with trademark examination policy to ensure that the agency is issuing high quality and timely registrations.

Paralegal Specialist Series, 0950
Specialized Experienceis experience that has equipped applicants with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the federal service.
Basic Educational Requirements:
Completion of 1 full academic year of graduate study in library science from an accredited college or university, in addition to completion of all work required for a bachelor's degree;
or
A total of at least 5 years of a combination of college-level education, training, and experience. To qualify on this basis, the applicant must establish conclusively that the education, training, and experience provided a knowledge and understanding of the theories, principles, and techniques of professional librarianship; a knowledge of literature resources; and the knowledge and abilities essential for providing effective library and information services.
Specialized experience for this position includes:
To qualify for this position at the GS-11 level, you must possess at least one (1) year of Specialized experience equivalent at the GS-09 grade. Specialized experience is defined as: (1) Experience working as a professional librarian in a legal setting supporting attorneys and other government official staff; (2) Experience providing reference and research service to attorneys for evidentiary purposes; AND (3) Experience utilizing oral and written communication to assist internal and external stakeholders with various information and research requirements.
OR
3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education in library science or doctoral degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) related to the position.
To qualify for this position at the GS-12 level, you must possess at least one (1) year of Specialized experience equivalent at the GS-11 grade. Specialized experience is defined as: (1) Experience utilizing knowledge of specialized information sources of published and unpublished materials including a wide variety of electronic legal databases to produce literature searches on specialized trademark statutes, regulations and court cases, etc.; (2) Experience applying knowledge of information technology, methods, practices, techniques, and legal and statutory resources to meet the changing needs of clientele and maintain a current information awareness program; AND (3) Experience utilizing oral and written communication to assist internal and external stakeholders with various information and research requirements.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Education
Education may be substituted at the GS-11 grade level. Education may be substituted at the GS-12 grade level.
