The incumbent serves as the Supervisory Medical Administration Specialist (Inpatient) GS-0301-09 within the Business Administration Service located in the Department of Veterans Affairs Southern Nevada Health Care System (VASNHS). The incumbent will be located at the Las Vegas VA Medical Center and serves as the BAS Inpatient Supervisor for Lead MSAs and Medical Support Assistants assigned to work areas.

Duties

Major Duties include but are not limited to: Plan and assign work to subordinates based on priorities, selective consideration of the difficulty and requirements of assignments, and the capabilities of employees Advise, counsel or instruct to employee on both work and administrative matters. Hear and resolve complaints from employees, referring group grievances and more serious unresolved complaints to a higher-level supervisor or manager Establish, adjust work priorities and evaluate work performance Monitor amount, accuracy and timeliness of production of work Review and recommend serious disciplinary actions Identify developmental and training needs of employees, providing or arranging for needed development and training The incumbent will be the direct supervisor for staff consisting of two GS-7 Lead Medical Support Assistants and 23 GS-5 Medical Support Assistants The incumbent will be required to be available for rotating shifts, weekends and holidays since some of their staff members are required to work these schedules Responsible for the oversight of outpatient scheduling functions that directly impact patients' access to care and satisfaction. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 09/01/2023. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-09 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-07. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-07 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: directing administrative functions for inpatient care for the VASNHS within the assigned inpatient clinics and supervise the Lead and MSA staff who are in direct support of the services. The work contributes to patients receiving timely access to VHA care in a consistent and efficient manner. The quality of the work directly impacts the access to and effectiveness of veteran health care. Work involves establishing criteria to measure and/or predict the attainment of program or organizational goals and objectives. OR, Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related. OR, Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education beyond GS-09 . You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position: Administration and ManagementCustomer Service (Clerical/Technical)Health Informatics Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: The work is manly sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items such as papers, books, small parts; or driving an automobile, etc. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
