Duties

Perform a broad range of law enforcement, investigation, crime prevention, traffic control, and community policing. Apprehend suspects utilizing the appropriate level of authorized force. Conduct preliminary investigations pertaining to felonies, misdemeanors and other criminal acts. Conduct traffic and security patrols to enforce federal, state, Department of Defense, Department of the Army and local regulations. Administer law enforcement training and development activities for police officers, military police, criminal investigators, and security guards. Update existing lesson plans, techniques, equipment, and overall course materials. Advise the Chief of Police and Directorate of Emergency Services (DES) Director on training needs and weaknesses.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must meet the conditions of employment identified in Army Regulation (AR) 190-56; "The Army Civilian Police and Security Guard Program,". Prior to appointment you must agree in writing to adhere to these conditions of employment.
  • This position requires you to pass the record Physical Agility Test (PAT) within 30 days of being hired and annually thereafter.
  • This position requires the incumbent to carry a firearm, qualify with their assigned weapon and remain proficient in the use of their assigned weapon and police related equipment which may include chemical aerosol irritants and LESD.
  • This is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) and is covered by the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program. IAW AR 600-85, a DA 5019R Condition of Employment must be signed for mandatory drug testing.
  • This position requires the selectee to qualify annually for the Individual Reliability Program (IRP) as explained in IAW 190-56, Chapter 3.
  • The 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968 covers this position. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for this position.
  • The position requires the selectee possess and maintain a valid state driver's license and be able to obtain and maintain a government motor vehicle operator's license.
  • This position requires an initial and periodic medical examination to assess your ability to take the Physical Ability Test and to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Incumbent is required to wear prescribed uniform.
  • Must have completed a Certified Law Enforcement Academy (military, federal or civilian) or be able to complete and pass the Police Academy course.
  • Hours of work is subject to irregular and/or rotating shifts, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays. Incumbent is required to work overtime as directed and is subject to recall for emergency overtime.
  • This position is designated as Mission Essential (IAW DODI 3024.42 and DTM 17-004) position during Inclement Weather Conditions or other designed/identified emergency conditions.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
