This is a bargaining unit position with AFGE Local 228.
This is not a drug testing designated position (TDP).
Serves as a Student Trainee in the Office of the Chief Information Officer. Assignments are selected to provide developmental experience enabling the incumbent to acquire required skills needed at higher grade levels in the occupation and to enhance the educational field of study.
Duties
This position is established under the Small Business Administration (SBA) Intern Program. At the successful conclusion/completion of the Internship program, the student may be eligible for non-competitive conversion to a Federal career or career-conditional position. If converted, the student must meet the qualifications of the position being converted into at the GS-09 grade level.
As a Student Trainee, you will actively engage in the following duties:
Assist with development and testing strategies of agency-wide standards for digital services.
Conducts studies to identify new areas for automated data processing.
Supports projects, initiatives and strategies related to digital service delivery.
Assist with the use of application security measures throughout the stages of the application lifecycle.

Qualifications
Student Internship Program Eligibility:
Current students in an accredited high school, college (including 4-year colleges/universities, community colleges, and junior colleges); professional, technical, vocational, and trade school; advanced degree programs; or other qualifying educational institution pursuing a qualifying degree or certificate.
To be eligible for appointment to a position in the Small Business Administration (SBA) Internship Program, throughout the duration of the appointment, an individual must:
Be currently enrolled or accepted as a student on at least a half-time basis at a qualifying educational institution in a certificate, degree, or diploma program.
Be seeking a degree that is relevant to the position.
Grade qualifications must be met prior to start date.
Must meet the definition of a student throughout the duration of their internship appointment.
Complete at least 640 hours of work experience prior to completion of degree.
Students who have graduated are not eligible for this position.
If selected you:
must sign a Pathways Internship Program Participant Agreement;
may be employed throughout the academic year;
must maintain status as a current student;
maintain good academic standing, at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 grading scale.
must furnish course registration information at the start of each school term; and
must provide verification of academic status (transcript) at the end of each academic term.
GS-07: One year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service, obtained in either the private or public sector, which includes: applying, IT principles, methods, and practices in the customer service and customer support area to identify and resolve issues and problems. These qualifications must be fully supported in your resume.
OR
GS-7 Education: Completed 1 full year of graduate-level education from an accredited college or university. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work; OR I possess a Bachelor's degree with Superior Academic Achievement: SAA is defined as (1) cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 for all completed undergraduate courses, or those completed in the last 2 years of undergraduate study; (2) GPA of 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 for all courses in your major field of study, or those courses in your major completed in the last two years; (3) Rank in the upper one-third of your class in the college, university, or major subdivision; or (4) Membership in a national honor society (other than freshman honor societies). You must submit transcripts (official or unofficial) to support this option. If selected, official transcripts will be required.
OR
GS-7 Combination of Education & Experience: Possess equivalent combinations of successfully completed graduate level education and experience to meet total qualification requirements. NOTE: Only graduate level education (beyond 4 years of under-graduate level education earned) is creditable.
GS-9: One year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service, obtained in either the private or public sector, which includes: planning and delivering customer support services, including installation, configuration, troubleshooting, customer assistance, and/or training, in response to customer requirements; troubleshooting, recovering, adjusting, modifying, and improving IT systems in order to provide advice and assistance to customers. These qualifications must be fully supported in your resume.
OR
GS-9 Education: Completed 2 academic years of graduate level education, or a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree from an accredited college or university. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. You must submit transcripts (official or unofficial) to support this option. If selected, official transcripts will be required.
OR
GS-9 Combination of Education & Experience: Possess equivalent combinations of successfully completed graduate level education and experience to meet total qualification requirements. For example, an applicant who has 1 full year of Masters level education (i.e. 50% of education required) and 6 months of creditable specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level as described above (i.e. 50% of the required experience) would equate to 100% of the required experience for the position.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
