About the Position: Serves as a public affairs specialist with responsibility for planning and executing the Command Information Program for the U.S. Army Garrison Fort Gregg-Adams, Virginia.

Duties

Develop, implement, and review Public Affairs policies, guidance, and procedures. Prepare news releases, articles, speeches, briefings, photographs with captions and interviews. Maintain mutual communications between federal agencies and the general public, both internally and externally. Supply information to the web and social media manager on the installation's internal and external sites, as well as its online social media platforms. Produce, communicate, and disseminate information and ideas to inform and entertain via written, oral, and visual media. Analyze trends in social media tools and applications to make recommendations and highlight new opportunities. Ensure appropriate information is received, developed, and distributed to various media representatives and outlets. Manage an organizations' website and social media presence including the scheduling and positing of articles, photos, videos, and informational updates. Write news and feature stories, take photos and write captions using AP Style guidelines.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience with public affair processes such as proofreading and/or writing articles in accordance with Associated Press style, managing web and social media content, creating photo/video products. Experience utilizing a variety of social media techniques and tools such as Microsoft office products and/or adobe creative cloud programs. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). OR Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Journalism, Public Administration or Communications. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Administration and ManagementCommunications and MediaManages and Organizes InformationMultimedia Technologies Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the second lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).
