About the Position: Serves as the Director of Public Affairs at a large multi-mission military installation with responsibilities to the Deputy to the Garrison Commander for planning, coordinating and directing public affairs support for all organizations on the installation to include community relations; media operations and facilitations; information strategies; liaison between tenant organizations, garrison and the public; legislative liaison/government relations and the garrison newspaper.

Duties

Coordinate and direct public affairs support for all organizations. Plan, implement, oversee and evaluate effective internal and external information programs. Serve as the principal staff advisor on all matters involving public issues and the creation of communication policy. Promote and maintain effective relationships with representatives of government, members of Congress, civic organizations and other agencies, and with news media and special interest groups. Program, initiate and direct an internal and external information program to meet various information needs in consonance with the overall mission and policies of the organization. Supervise personnel coordinating work priorities. Evaluate work performance and counsel staff.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.

Editing or producing a variety of innovative written materials such as speeches, articles, talking points, news releases and briefings. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service GS-12. Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Communications and MediaInterpersonal SkillsLeadershipPlanning and Evaluating Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12).
