Duties

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING DAY TO DAY As a Personnel Security Specialist, you will use your knowledge of and experience with the Office of National Security to optimize business results and customer experience by: Obtaining background investigations for individuals that are conducted by certified investigative agencies including the Office of Personnel Management (OPM). Adjudicating background investigations using prescribed standards and procedures for national security positions. Conducting pre-employment checks and reviews, Declaration for Federal Employment (OF-306) and Electronic Questionnaires for Investigations Processing (e-QIP) to determine if individuals are suitable for federal employment and enrollment into Trusted Workforce; grants, denies, revokes, suspends, or restricts security clearances; as well as processes onboard ng requests from OPDIVS and STAFFDIVS. Preparing reports and maintaining records of work accomplishments and administrative information, as required, and coordinating the preparation, presentation and communication of work-related information to the supervisor, assisting in preparing suitability/security adjudication summaries of the investigative reports continuing actionable information which could impact on an applicant's employment or an employee's continued employment or could affect a decision on a security clearance. Resolving conflicting testimony or sources and degrees of significant information in background investigation adjudication cases.

  • Appointment will be subject to the applicant's successful completion of a background security investigation and favorable adjudication. All information concerning qualifications is subject to investigation.

  • All Federal employees are required to have Federal salary payments made by direct deposit to a financial institution of their choice.

  • Probationary (or trial) period may be required.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret national security clearance.
  • Must successfully pass a urinalysis drug screening prior to appointment.
  • This is a designated drug testing position. Subject to random drug screening.

Qualifications

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR Minimum Qualifications: You must have one year specialized experience to perform successfully the duties of the position. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service performing at least ALL of the following: Assessing the Clearance Verification System or an equivalent commercial system to verify the status of background investigations and/or adjudications determinations; Adjudicating background investigations in accordance with the Office of Personnel Management, Office of the Director of National Intelligence, or an equivalent private organization's personnel security regulations; Initiating background investigations with the Defense Counterintelligence Security Agency or an equivalent private organization; and Reviewing security packets to determine employment eligibility and/or access. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to gain employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. If such experience is on a part-time basis, you must provide the average number of hours worked per week as well as the beginning and ending dates of the experience so it can be fully credited.
