Duties

You will provide position classification services to a complex organization composed of a wide variety of positions performing highly specialized areas to include professional, scientific, administrative, and technical occupational categories. You will perform special reviews and surveys in conjunction with manpower and management analysis surveys. You will identify problems in alignment, ratios, delineation of duties and responsibilities, career development opportunities in the organization structure, employee retention, delegations of authority, and economy of the grade structure. You will conduct on-site or telephonic position reviews, interprets and adapts simple task descriptions and job summaries, prepares written evaluation statements as required, and fully analyzes and classifies individual positions descriptions. You will determine the correct classification by comparison to existing standards related to the work, and prepares necessary evaluation statements. You will explain the standards, classification decisions, impact of designated duties on classification, and complaint and appeal procedures to employees, supervisors, and operating officials or managers. You will evaluate position management in assigned organizations and provides assistance to supervisors and operating officials on ways to improve structure, work distribution, and the use of employee skills. You will advise on classification changes involving position/employee impact and related actions to assure regulatory compliance prior to implementing new structures. You will use an expert level of knowledge and skill in applying the full range of HR methods, principles, practices and evaluative methodologies sufficient to advise on and/or resolve the full range of operational problems.

  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Providing advice and guidance to colleagues and managers in the area of classification; advising managers on sound position management; researching and conducting thorough analysis of positions and making final independent determinations on the allocation of grade levels to positions using classification job grading standards, desk/telephone audits, and information obtained through research.
