Serves as a Student Trainee with the Small Business Administration in the Office of Innovation and Investment in Washington, DC. The goal of Student Trainee (Information Technology) is to support the digital
services initiative and to work with a diverse group of stakeholders to improve the IT and digital resources available to OII staff.
Duties
This position is established under the Small Business Administration (SBA) Intern Program. At the successful conclusion/completion of the Internship program, the student may be eligible for non-competitive conversion to a Federal career or career-conditional position. If converted, the student must meet the qualifications of the position being converted into at the GS-09 grade level.
As a Student Trainee, you will actively engage in the following duties:
Data Management - Support the collection, storage and retrieval of data. Develop a plan for and conduct data gathering efforts.
Assess IT systems for accuracy, user-friendliness, and compliance.
Communication - through reports, data analysis and collection, and project, milestones.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Student Internship Program Eligibility:
Current students in an accredited high school, college (including 4-year colleges/universities, community colleges, and junior colleges); professional, technical, vocational, and trade school; advanced degree programs; or other qualifying educational institution pursuing a qualifying degree or certificate.
To be eligible for appointment to a position in the Small Business Administration (SBA) Internship Program, throughout the duration of the appointment, an individual must:
Be currently enrolled or accepted as a student on at least a half-time basis at a qualifying educational institution in a certificate, degree, or diploma program.
Be seeking a degree that is relevant to the position.
Grade qualifications must be met prior to start date.
Must meet the definition of a student throughout the duration of their internship appointment.
Complete at least 640 hours of work experience prior to completion of degree.
Students who have graduated are not eligible for this position.
If selected you:
must sign a Pathways Internship Program Participant Agreement;
may be employed throughout the academic year;
must maintain status as a current student;
maintain good academic standing, at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 grading scale.
must furnish course registration information at the start of each school term; and
must provide verification of academic status (transcript) at the end of each academic term.
For the GS-07 grade level:
GS-07: One year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service, obtained in either the private or public sector that includes: 1). Utilizing IT systems; and 2) Managing financial and administrative data to produce reports; and 3) Making presentations to program staff. These qualifications must be clearly referenced in your resume.
For the GS-09 grade level:
GS-09: One year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service, obtained in either the private or public sector that includes: 1). Utilizing and manipulating IT systems to troubleshoot IT issues; and 2) Managing and evaluating financial and administrative data to produce reports; and 3) Making presentations to senior leadership. These qualifications must be clearly referenced in your resume.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g. Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
All qualification requirements must be met by 11:59 pm (Eastern Time) on 09/01/2023.
Education
Education may be substituted for experience for this position.
If you do not meet the specialized experience requirements, you may also qualify with education. You

GS-07: Successful completion of 1 year (18 semester hours) graduate-level education directly related to the position; OR Superior academic achievement based on one of the following: (1) class standing, (2) grade-point average, or (3) honor society member. GS-09: Successful completion of 2 academic years of graduate level education, or a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree from an accredited college or university. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. You must submit transcripts (official or unofficial) to support this option. If selected, official transcripts will be required.
Combination of Experience and Education:
GS-07: Combination of education and experience as specified above. For example, an applicant who has 6 months (9 semester hours) of graduate level education (i.e. 50% of education required) and 6 months of creditable specialized experience (i.e. 50% of the required experience) would equal 100% of the required experience for the position.
GS-09: Combination of education and experience as specified above. For example, an applicant who has 1.0 full year of Masters level education (i.e. 50% of education required) and 6 months of creditable specialized experience (i.e. 50% of the required experience) would equal 100% of the required experience for the position.
