The Air Force Research Lab Site Logistics Branch (AFRL/RQIL) seeks to hire an Environmental Protection Specialist DO-0028-02 at Edwards Air Force Base.
Duties
Position duties include, but are not limited to:
- Spokesperson for AFRL/RQ-West in various base wide environmental meetings such as the quarterly Environmental Management System Cross-Functional meetings, Hazardous Materials Management Process meetings, and Edwards AFB Alliance Council meetings.
- Regularly consults with program managers and various Division POCs for complex program support. Manages all environmental programs to include plans, permits and ensures regulatory compliance with federal, state, and local policies.
- Briefs site leadership weekly on environmental topics, surveys, restoration activities, inspections, wildlife and their impact to test schedule.

Experience requirements are described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Administrative and Management Positions. To qualify for this position, you must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the DO-01 broadband. Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled.
Job Specifics Includes
Develops and implements, as the Environmental Unit Coordinator, the Aerospace System Directorate (ASD) environmental requirements for experimental rocket motor/engine test programs while ensuring compliance with applicable Federal, State, and local statutes and regulations.
Provides professional oversight and consultant services to project managers, engineers, and supervisors.
Evaluates test project goals to determine required environmental reviews of newly developed rocket engines, motors, propellants and explosives.
Reviews, advises, and provides guidance on the full range of environmental matters, safe handling requirements and toxic monitoring evaluations related to the organization's use and testing of rocket propellant related research activities; including all matters related to emergency response, the environment, and waste that is generated.
Develops and recommends site wide evaluation criteria and guidelines for assessing environmental programs. Sets overall environmental goals to be accomplished by the test teams and reviews the end products prior to implementation.
