This Supervisory Security Specialist position is located in the Government Accountability Office (GAO), Infrastructure Operations (IO), Security and Emergency Management (SEM). SEM is responsible for the development, implementation and oversight of the GAO Security Program. The incumbent will serve as Supervisor of the Personnel Security Branch within the SEM team.

Duties

The incumbent of this position manages the functions and oversight of the Personnel and Industrial Security Branch. This includes analyzing and researching a wide variety of topics and conditions related to the Personnel and Industrial Security Program and provide management with reports, recommendations, and required actions as well as providing oversight and guidance to subordinate staff on directed course of action.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualification Requirements: You may qualify at the BAND MS-1 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement: Applicants must have at least one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience at the next lower grade level, equivalent to the GS-12 in the federal service or comparable private sector experience. Specialized experience is defined as practical experience in: 1) managing a personnel security program for processing security clearances and conducting background checks; 2) planning, organizing, and directing team project work; 3) negotiating effectively with management to accept and implement recommendations; and 4) providing supervision and guidance in the development and implementation of comprehensive strategic plans and performance metrics. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
