About the Position: This position is located in the Directorate of Public Works Construction and Transportation Division, Construction & Maintenance Branch at Letterkenny Army Depot in Chambersburg, PA.
Duties
Inform supervisors on work progress that may impact maintenance or construction operations.
Review craftsman's workmanship to ensure proper procedures are met.
Apply knowledge of acceptable trade practices and methods on repairs of facilities.
Perform maintenance of carpentry, plumbing, painting, and electrical work.
Check maintenance work of craftsmen for quality and compliance with job requirements.
Demonstrate proper work methods to employees.
Recommend hand/power tools for proper use of maintenance work.
Operate motor vehicles in performance of these duties.
Inspect buildings, ground facilities, and construction sites to identify required maintenance.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain Government operator's license within a reasonable time frame of appointment.
- Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License.
- Position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment.
- This is a mission essential position and may require shift work and/or work on rotating shifts to provide coverage in the evenings, weekends, holidays and other situation.
- Position may require reporting to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operation in the event of severe weather conditions.
- Must be able to physically lift up to 40 lb. during normal operations.
- Must be willing to accept a temporary appointment.
- Must undergo pre-employment and physical exam annually with favorable results.

Position may be filled as a temporary promotion NTE 1 year by a current permanent Army employee. Temporary promotions may be extended up to a maximum of five years and may be made permanent without further competition.
Position may be filled as a temporary appointment NTE 1 year if candidate is not a current permanent Army employee. Temporary appointments may be extended up to a maximum of three years.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to Lead or Supervise. Have the ability to perform common Maintenance Worker (MVO) Leader duties to include: Lead team members on assisting with repairing of such trades in upkeeping grounds, carpentry, plumbing, heating and clearing operational sites. Work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Physical Efforts: Stands, walks, and bends while performing the work. Lifts and carries equipment and materials weighing up to 40 pounds. The work requires considerable physical effort for long periods in handling materials and operating equipment.
Working Conditions: Works inside and outside in all types of weather. Subject to injury from handling equipment, burns, fumes, noise, falls, cuts, dirt, and grease. May be required to wear protective clothing and equipment.
