The Office Automation Assistant position is located within the Surgical Pathology Section of the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Service at the North Florida/South Georgia VA Healthcare System in Gainesville, FL.

Duties

***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** The major duties include but are not limited to: Performs typing work, whether from voice recordings or written material using word processing software and equipment; Integrates several types of software to generate specific working documents and forms such as spreadsheets, database, word processing, desktop publishing, graphics, and other similar products; Reviews, amends or rejects medical reports transmitted to the Surgical Pathology Section into VISTA. These reports include gross dictations, frozen sections and final pathology reports; Verifies the accuracy of specific portions of transcribed reports, e.g., name of dictating physician, patient name, patient identifier and specimen sites; Maintains a control system used to monitor incoming dictation and verifies accurate transcription; Performs other related duties as assigned. Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:30am to 4:00pm Recruitment & Relocation Incentives: Not authorized Financial Disclosure Report: Not Required Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary although there may be some nominal walking or standing for short periods of time or carrying of light loads of papers, books, or reports that do not require special physical demands. The work is conducted in a busy, generally congested office with many interruptions.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE GS-5: You must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-4) in the Federal service that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the Office Automation Assistant - Transcription position, and that is typically in or related to the work of this position. Specialized experience includes: Listening to and interpreting audio dictations for transcription of documentation; utilizing knowledge of medical terminology and CPT codes as related to Pathology and laboratory; using office automation equipment such as a computer, telephone, dictation and transcription equipment, etc.; and performing data entry. NOTE: Experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title, duties, month and year start/end dates AND hours worked per week. ~OR~ EDUCATION: Successful completion of 4 years of education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. This education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. NOTE: Transcripts must be submitted with your application. Education cannot be credited without documentation. ~OR~ COMBINATION: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience to meet total qualification requirements at the GS-5 level. The quality ranking factor for this position is: "Do you have transcription experience?" NOTE: You will be required to provide proof if referred for an interview. Quality Ranking Factors are skills, knowledge, abilities, or other worker characteristics which could be expected to result in superior performance on the job. Quality ranking factors will not be used for screening but may be used as ranking criteria. Applicants with higher proficiency levels may rank above those with lower proficiency levels on a quality ranking factor. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
