The Dialysis Center Nurse Manager reports directly to the Chief Nurse of Virtual & Medical Specialty Care. Incumbent works independently under the scope of his/her licensure.

The Nurse Manager for the Dialysis Center will work closely with nursing and physician staff in the following areas: OR/PACU, Critical Care, Emergency Department, Acute Care Medical/Surgical, Outpatient, Mental Health and Geriatrics & Extended Care.
The Nurse Manager is responsible for implementation of the Vision, Mission, and Values of the Fayetteville NC VA Coastal Health Care System within his/her defined areas of responsibility.
He/she is fully engaged in the administrative and clinical nursing practice characterized by both increased complexity of clinical decision making and enhanced skills in nursing management/leadership.
He/she is responsible for the day-to-day operations and provides input into the strategic planning process for the attainment of organizational goals.
The Nurse Manager keeps staff informed of Clinical/Administrative goals through facilitating both vertical and horizontal communications in a timely manner.
The incumbent provides timely information regarding emergencies, unusual occurrences or issues impacting nursing practice or operations to the Chief Nurse of Virtual & Medical Specialty Care.
He/she will manage and supervise total patient care programs including care coordination, patient throughput and chronic disease case management for veterans in VA and Non-VA Community Care facilities.
Make rounds in the clinical area as appropriate to ensure smooth flow of patients from the ED to the inpatient wards, inter-ward transfers, discharge, and safe delivery of patient care.
He/she will direct, control and evaluate programs and follow-up actions, as required by internal and external review organizations.
He/she will communicate and interact appropriately and courteously with all internal and external customers.
He/she will maintain confidentiality of electronic, written, and/or verbal patient and employee information.
He/she will demonstrate managerial practices that include effective Labor/Management Partnership and leadership skills.
He/she will demonstrate working practices that include adherence to Infection Control standards, the safe use and operation of equipment, and adherence to safe work practices.
He/she provides direct supervision of nursing personnel in their defined area of responsibility and evaluates their performance and competency.
The incumbent is knowledgeable concerning the counseling/disciplinary process; works closely with the Human Resources representative and seeks assistance as needed keeping their supervisory abreast of actions
He/she is knowledgeable of medical policies, procedures, and guidelines related to the care coordination - transfer of patients transferring in and out of the facility as well as the flow and staffing of patients in the acute care setting.
The Nurse Manager is proficient in issues affecting nursing including, but not limited to: standards of practice, credentialing, training, functional statements, position descriptions, proficiency reports (timely and complete), performance appraisals (timely and complete), ensuring staff follow policies, procedures, and protocols. May be called upon to edit, format, update the same as required.
He/she ensures/supervises appropriate orientations, educations, and continuing professional development of nursing personnel
Ensures on-going assessment of staffing needs based on changing acuity, census, and staffing; ensures assignments reflect appropriate utilization, compliance with staffing guidelines, and the Joint Commission Standards.
He/she assists in allocation of available resources to promote efficient, effective, safe, and customer focused care.
The incumbent serves as a role model coaching and supporting staff in critical thinking in professional nursing practice. He/she fosters an environment conducive to learning and provides educational experiences for nurses.

Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases.

Basic Requirements:
United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
English Language Proficiency. In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English.
Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6) OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing.
Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia.
Preferred Experience:
1-2 years Ambulatory Dialysis Management experience
6 months experience in clinical nursing care of dialysis patients in either a chronic or acute setting

The full performance level of this vacancy is VN-03. The actual grade at which an applicant may be selected for this vacancy is in the range of VN-01 to VN-03.
Registered Nurses:
Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice/experience required.
Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience; OR a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience.
Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience.
Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience required.
Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience.

Physical Requirements: This position requires visual acuity, keen hearing, clear distinctive speech, and manual dexterity. This position requires potentially long periods of continued walking, standing, stooping, sitting, bending, pulling, and pushing. Transferring patients and objects may be required. Mechanical inpatient lifts are provided. The incumbent may be exposed to infected patients and contaminated materials and may be required to don protective clothing in isolation situations, operative/invasive procedures, or home settings. The incumbent may occasionally be exposed to patients who are combative secondary to delirium, dementia, or psychiatric disorders. The incumbent must be a mature, flexible, sensible individual capable of working effectively in stressful situations, able to shift priorities based on patient needs. Must complete annual Employee Health requirements, such as annual TB screening or testing, as a condition of employment. The incumbent who provides care in home settings or other off-site locations may be required to drive and/or ride in GSA-vehicles
