The primary purpose of this position is to conduct a wide variety of computer forensic examinations, related peripheral equipment and other automation/data storage devices, such as mobile and any electronic devices which connect to the internet; as well as various forms of digital evidence.

- Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft

- The employee may require be required to travel within the National Capital Region by way of government vehicles that require a valid driver's license
- Experience with Task Management Tool, Correspondence and Task Management System, and Joint Staff Action Process desired

Qualifications

Experience: Must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below: Attention to Detail, Customer Service, Oral Communication, and Problem Solving AND one year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-12 (or equivalent in other pay systems) which includes knowledge in multiple IT specialties including but not limited to computer communications, computer networking, computer and network administration, computer and network configurations, computer and network security configurations, installation of computer systems and computer networks, and computer operating systems. Mastery of advanced concepts, theories, principles, practices, methods, and techniques of computer science, and engineering. In-depth knowledge of LINUX (or some version of UNIX), MS Windows, and Macintosh, and mobile devices. Employee must be able to develop new skill sets as required. General knowledge of the mission, objectives, terminology, and management practices in the activity, the agency, and the department to recognize probable areas of interaction and overlap between proposed actions and existing organizations.
FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-12 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-13 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
Knowledge and experience with computer operating systems is required. The employee must have direct knowledge and experience with a variety of operating systems (e.g., MS Windows OS, different Unix OSes, and Mac OS). Knowledge of other older operating systems is desired. Knowledge of network standards such as TCP/IP, and UNIX Networking are desired. Previous experience as a system administrator or former law enforcement officer is desired.
Knowledge of computer hardware and mobile devices is required.
Ability to communicate orally and in writing, including providing accurate and timely technical reports is required.
Knowledge of and three to five years' experience in computer forensic cyber analysis, or the equivalent is highly desired. This includes an understanding of the chain of custody, writing technical reports and notes, and testifying in court.
Knowledge of Computer forensic principles. Skill collecting digital evidence. Ability in seizing and handling of digital evidence (from collection through to preservation and cyber analysis)
Skill in documenting all activity relating to the seizure, access, storage or transfer of digital evidence.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
