Duties
Major Duties:
As a Statistician, you will provide conceptual, programmatic, and technical guidance for data management and statistical analysis.
Your major duties include:
Developing high priority HRSA-relevant analysis and evaluations, identifying the appropriate analytic methods to be used, identifying potential sources of data, conducting the analyses and evaluations, and preparing results for dissemination.
Identifying, designing, and conducting analyses of program data, using pertinent data from a variety of sources as appropriate, to identify trends, respond to queries, inform analyses of existing and proposed relevant policies, strengthen the program and perform management, and advance the mission.
Interpreting results for both internal and external stake holders.
Providing advice and expertise on data acquisition, collection, analyses and methodology including the use of epidemiologic, costs, and functional status information for program planning, monitoring and evaluation purposes.
Developing written materials of a scientific nature such as summaries or reports of study findings, analytic reports, progress reports on active grants, FAQs, talking points, PowerPoint slides, visual products, and scientific publications materials.
Serving as a project officer on contracts, cooperative agreements, and/or grants, monitoring projects, independently evaluating budget, and identifying problems and making innovative recommendations for their solution.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL BASIC REQUIREMENTS FOR STATISTICIAN SERIES, 1530:
A. Degree: that included 15 semester hours in statistics (or in mathematics and statistics, provided at least 6 semester hours were in statistics), and 9 additional semester hours in one or more of the following: physical or biological sciences, medicine, education, or engineering; or in the social sciences including demography, history, economics, social welfare, geography, international relations, social or cultural anthropology, health sociology, political science, public administration, psychology, etc. Credit toward meeting statistical course requirements should be given for courses in which 50 percent of the course content appears to be statistical methods, e.g., courses that included studies in research methods in psychology or economics such as tests and measurements or business cycles, or courses in methods of processing mass statistical data such as tabulating methods or electronic data processing.
OR
B. Combination of education and experience-courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience in additional education. The experience should have included a full range of professional statistical work such as (a) sampling, (b) collecting, computing, and analyzing statistical data, and (c) applying statistical techniques such as measurement of central tendency, dispersion, skewness, sampling error, simple and multiple correlation, analysis of variance, and tests of significance.

MINIMUM QUALIFYING SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position and is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, an applicant's one full year of specialized experience must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for successful job performance.
GS-12: In order to qualify for this GS-12 position, your resume must clearly demonstrate that you have one full year of minimum qualifying specialized experience comparable in difficulty and responsibility to at least the GS-11 level in the federal service.
Examples of minimum qualifying specialized experience equal to the GS-11 level include performing the following types of tasks on a regular and recurring basis:
Using statistical theories and techniques that relate to one or more of the following: experimental design, data analysis, data visualizations, sampling, forecasting to prepare reports, summaries, etc.
OR
Reviewing and analyzing public health data using statistical techniques and statistical software (e.g., SAS, SPSS, STATA, Tableau, etc.) including documenting the results of the analysis.
GS-13: In order to qualify for this GS-13 position, your resume must clearly demonstrate that you have one full year of minimum qualifying specialized experience comparable in difficulty and responsibility to at least the GS-12 level in the federal service.
Examples of minimum qualifying specialized experience equal to the GS-12 level include performing the following types of tasks on a regular and recurring basis:
Using statistical software (e.g., SAS, SPSS, STATA, Tableau, R, etc.) to handle large data set manipulations and analyses of public health data.
OR
Performing statistical data collection requirements activities, such as preparing, processing, and coordinating ad hoc and standing collection requirements.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; community; student; social). If such experience is on a part-time basis, you must provide the average number of hours worked per week as well as the beginning and ending dates of the experience so it can be fully credited.
